Anyone here breed dogs that would care to share their experience?
Ive always been interested in breeding but theres a lot of things to take into consideration like vet bills, what dog to breed.

I asked for breeding advice not things to try and make me feel bad about wanting to proceed with my future career choice. There are more pets that have good homes, with nice families that treat them good. So dont pull that shit man. Just dont. Way to look at the negative side of things

Lol how did i know you were going to say that? Its the classic getout.

Youre on a public board, im giving my opinion. My opinion is that if youre interested in dog breeding you should consider those points long and hard for the dogs sakes. And also ask yourself why that is your "career choice" if you dont truly give a shit about dogs, no matter what "breed" they are. The money? Or wanting to perfect certain breeds or something...please, so many are unwanted already on the planet. Its a valid point and it wont go away

Oh, and it doesnt matter how many are in nice safe homes, it doesnt change the fact that so many are not, does it? And that you would be breeding even more, who could either suffer the same fate or take the place of a dog that could have been rescued. Our resources and care are needed, for them

Manitoba , has way too many puppy mills already ,and there is no money in breeding dogs. people do it for the love of the breed not to make money . you may not like what your reading but it's the true .

Some breeds make 1000 pounds or more for each pup (sorry, i dont know how much that is in dollars or any other currency) Thats a LOT of money in breeding

And love of the breed...thats just wrong. There are so many abandoned dogs that there MUST be enough of every breed to go around...and dogs are dogs, anyway

PUP MILLS are bad things , really bad you don't want to see them, they raise dogs like livestock
if your breeding dogs for the love of the breed , your not going to make money, break even if your lucky

Dog breeding should never be a persons career choice. The people that I know that have bread do so because of their love of the animals not because it makes them any kind of money.

Peachybabie - before you consider breeding, could you please chech this site out to see how many dogs (of the breed you're considering" are already out there without a home? http://www.petfinder.com//index.html

I work with guinea pig rescue - there are TONS less guinea pig owners than dog owners in the US, and there are so many unwanted pets that every rescue & shelter within 100 miles of my home is full-up of piggies.

I wanted to breed rabbits when I was a teen. I thought it would be fun too, and maybe bring a little spare cash in on the side. But the cost of raising the bunnies would have far exceeded any money I might have brought in. I know dogs sell for a whole lot more than $20 apiece, but... they take a lot more in care as well.
    love,
    mom

I do consider all of the things you guys are saying and verseau_miracle i didnt mean it to be insulting, but to get into this i am trying to get information, i am sirious about breeding dogs and i was just trying to get information. I do love dogs, which is one of the many reasons why i want to breed dogs. I dont think that wanting to breed dogs makes me a bad person which is what you guys make me out to be. Yes manitoba has puppy mills, but im not going to sell my puppies to puppy mills, i am just as against them as anyone. but i just meant that i wanted to get some tips and pointers about how to get into the industry, i do understand the negative points of view, but everything has a negaitve side

Sorry, im still not buying it:( You sound nice, but really, you dont have an argument, do you? Except that you just feel like it...youre doing it because you want to. Dont you understand it is nothing but a negative thing for the planet, the bigger picture considered? We simply do not need more dogs. No matter WHY theyre bred

As for "everything has a negative side"...come on. This particular negative side affects homeless doggies everywhere...produces a mass more consumption...you need to think globally about things like this, repercussions can be huge. There comes a point where "everything has a negative side" wont work. You could use that as an excuse for anything

THere is no puppy breading industry unless you run a puppy mill and sell to pet stores. There are reputable breeders that keep all there animals like pets and sell them from their homes. The home breeders do not make any money off the dogs. The make eneough to pay for food and vet bills and thats about it.

im not trying to get you to buy it. Im gonna do what im gonna do. Yes i am doing it because i feel like it, im not trying to argue any point, you have good points, but the fact is that there are so many otherthings going on in the world. Having one more dog breeder isnt gonna change the world entirely, which is what your making it out to be, its not that big of a deal. You dont always have to break stuff down into "the bigger" picture. I mean everyone does things because they want to, if they didnt people would be miserable. If i bred a dog it wouldnt be to make money it would be to make me happy, and me making sure that the puppies i breed are well taken care of. But honestly im not trying to debate anything, it just is what it is.

You do want to make money though. Atleast that is how you first talked about it. Have you ever owned any dogs or had to pay to keep even one dog?

And thats what i would want to do, home breeding, i didnt really say anything about money in my original post, i dont really care about money, i could be a stay at home mom and breeding be my hobbie rather than career choice as i put it earlier i guess i chose the wrong words. But yea i am just interested in breeding from my home and selling the puppies to people who are interested in having a pure breed dog.

Well both, but even when my mom had to pay for my dog she never stopped telling me how expensive it was to keep her. i may only be 18 but i do understand what it takes to keep a dog, and the expenses.

You aren't just talking about one dog most breeders have 4-5 and the pay for stud dogs also. You have to make sure that your dogs come from a good healthy line. If you buy your dogs from a good breeder you are also going to have to share what you make from those puppies with them. It is a very expensive process. It's not easy and it takes years to get into. Almost all good breeders also show there dogs so you have those expenses also.
