We need a Donovan thread here. Any other huge Donovan fans in here? I love the man entirely. Some of my favorite LPs are Open Road, Gift From A Flower To A Garden and Mellow Yellow. I just finished his autobiography... great read! Made me love him even more... a truly beautiful human being.
im suprised there isnt a donovan thread...good call i really enjoy his music. "gift from a flower" and "sunshine superman" are wonderful albums. i've been meaning to get more of his music, cause i really love what i have heard from those two albums
Heya! Yeah, I held back from starting one because I assumed there already was one... Oh well, here it is! I'm an enormous Donovan fan. Glad you are too! Sunshine Superman... dig that album too. I got it for Christmas and was psyched! I think you sould get Open Road. It's a favorite of mine.
did you guys ever see the episode of futurama where donovan did a guest spot for the story of atlantis? GENIUS!
I love fairy tale, sunshine superman, and barabajagel the most but I can pretty much put on any Don album and really dig it. That sketch from futurama is hilarious. read the hurdy gurdy man autobiography too but prefer to listen to the music, although it made me want to pack up my guitar and live on a beach, which would be nice
Hehe that was a cool episode for anyone who has seen it! I too love Donovan, he has such a sweet voice, it helps me unwind when I'm pissed off or stressed. My fave songs are Jennifer Juniper, Mellow Yellow, Lord of The Dance(well, his version of it) and my all time fave is Sunshine Superman. It's good to see fellow Donovan fans here!
Donovan is beautiful! I love his music, it's great! Jersey Thursday is awesome, and Sunny Goodge Street, and Maria Magenta and Teas and Codine (thanks to Jonh221 ) I'm in love with his version of of buffy saint marie's song donna donna *sigh* Donovan is wonderful!
i found the clip of him on futurama! https://www.youtube.com/w/futurama-:-hail-atlanta?v=6K_eWSvTjwE&search=futurama enjoy
sunday early hours of morning and bbc 4 has just showed a 1972 donovan concert" yeah man glad i had a video in recorder.......... wear your love like heaven
First time i heard Donovan was when i heard Steve Hillage's cover of Hurdy Gurdy Man, and was desperate to find out who wrote it! Beautiful song, that. I kept meaning to buy a cd but spent my money on Moby Grape. Oh well
I love Donovan's music. It's very beautiful and sometimes haunting music. He really was Britian's answer to Dylan, even though he was from Scotland. But, I really like all of his material, from his first album to his latest, Beat Cafe. Even his 80's albums were pretty good, making him one of the only artists making music in the 80's that I could stand to listen to. Overall, Donovan is great music.
picked up wear your love like heaven at a record fair at the weekend havent listened to it yet im saving it til i get some real good weed
Did you catch the scene in No Direction Home, where Dylan plays Love Minus Zero/No Limit in front of Donovan and some people in a hotel room on the '65 tour? Everyone's having a good time and barely listening, but Donovan is and he's giving Dylan the absolute death stare. Not uncommon that Dylan provoked jealousy in his peers, I s'pose...and he could be a real asshole at times. I don't have any animosity for Donovan either....just an observation.
yeah...Donovan looks so pissed in that scene, 'cause he knows he's just got his ass handed to him by the master. I love Donovan and everything, but no one can ever top Dylan.
