i cringe at the thought of a 9 till 5 job, wearing a tie and shirt and... god forbid... cutting my hair :& how can i stay young and (relativly) free? :sunglasse
Choose a career path that makes you happy. One thing I've learned that should be fairly obvious is that happiness counts for way more than money. Most folks that I might consider rich aren't all that happy- they pushed themselves toward lucrative careers mistaking money for happiness and they are among the most miserable people I know. Figure out what you like to do that can earn you money and your job won't have to be so much of a drag and there ARE some career choices that will allow you to keep long hair. Any boss who would force me to wear elements of a work uniform on my own time (E.G.: short hairstyle) doesn't deserve my services. You're 17 and it is good that you're looking to the future. As far as I'm concerned you're going about it right because if you follow through with your current line of thinking you will be far more successful and happy than your contemporaries who will have enslaved themselves and lost a sense of self in the quest for a bigger bank account.
Like Stinkfoot said. Heck, I didn't even have a job until I was 30! Doesn't mean I wasn't happy though, supporting my family as a musician. I loved my career choice, as I called it, even though it didn't bring in that much money and we were constantly traveling.
if you dont wanna have a 9-5 job for 40 years, just dont go to collage. my current plan for the future is for me and my friend to go to LA when we graduate, start a band and just go from there
well how can you be so worried about something that has not happend yet - yet look on the bright side um...at least you will have more freedoms and choices *drops the act then cries like a baby - - - i don't wanna be an oldie*
i dont plan on being one of the shitty musicians. thats why almost all i do after school is play my guitar, skate, and smoke some weed
screw the 9-5 job if you don't like it then. do whatever makes you happy despite what others say. that's all there is to it
hehe very true, but those things on the out side represent how i feel on the inside. i meen i dont want my spirit to mature and be more concerened with material things etc.
When I'm lying in my bed at night I don't wanna grow up Nothin' ever seems to turn out right I don't wanna grow up. How do you move in a world of fog That's always changing things Makes me wish that I could be a dog When I see the price that you pay I don't wanna grow up I don't ever wanna be that way I don't wanna grow up. Seems like folks turn into things That they'd never want The only thing to live or Is today... I'm gonna put a hole in my T.V. set I don't wanna grow up Open up the medicine chest And I don't wanna grow up I don't wanna have to shout it out I don't want my hair to fall out I don't wanna be filled with doubt I don't wanna be a good boy scout I don't wanna have to learn to count I don't wanna have the biggest amount I don't wanna grow up. Well when I see my parents fight I don't wanna grow up They all go out and drinking all night And I don't wanna grow up I'd rather stay here in my room Nothin'out there but sad and gloom I don't wanna live in a big old tomb On Grand Street When I see the 5 o'clock news I don't wanna grow up Comb their hair and shine their shoes I don't wanna grow up Stay around in my old hometown I don't wanna put no money down I don't wanna get me a big old loan Work them fingers to the bone I don't wanna float a broom Fall in love and get married then boom How the hell did it get here so soon I don't wanna grow up
you don't have to work 9-5 and wear a suit to be grown up begin grown will probely be better: you have more choice and respect. Also when your gown its easyer to not care what people think of you.
find a job where you're mostly independent, where you aren't under the direct control of another person. The trades are a good place to look, if you have the aptitude for it... electricians, contractors, plumbers, floor layers etc. Just remember some of those are awfully hard on the body, so save up for early retiremet if you can
