Hi I'm not really new to the board as I have read so many posts on here in the last few weeks. However, this is my first post. This Friday, I'm getting dreads. I'm very excited since I've wanted them for over a year. After doing a lot of research on the net for anything to do with dreadlocks, I have come to the realization that there are SO MANY negative comments about them. As dreadheads yourself, do you get a lot of negative comments from people?? I don't understand the hate towards white people especially that have dreads.
you can expect negative comments. you can expect not liking them at many points. but you can also expect great points if you give dreads time. also not all comments will be negative, some people compliment them
different attitudes from different people in different places, I don't get much negativity, I got comments about how much of a mess they look to begin with, and ofcourse your going to get strange looks from certain types of people.. the ones with the right wing votes etc ^^ but if you want them bad enough I don't think the magnitude of comments would be enough to change your mind, though this is just from my experience.
Ditto. Infact, when my dad and aunt (my aunt is my step-mother too) came to visit, my aunt actually said, "Your hair's horrible but I know you don't care," which was surprisingly nice and better than the rest of my family's pretence that nothing is different lol
Awesome Amy! I just hope it applies to when I need to get a job. I don't think anyone I've ever spoken to who's never seen dreads has brought up the subject of my hair. The last negative comment I had was three years ago when someone shouted at me "do you wash your hair in a bucket?" But I don't think that was negative more lack of common sense.
Yes, the drunken club love is good, You'll also get a lot of drunken dredsperts who typically begin conversations with "I had dreads, but I had to cut them because of X. You should really Y and then they will <lock, loose hairs, shrink, loops, grow>"
I have only gotten looks, stares, and points from people. No one has actually opened up their mouth to say anything negative to me though yet. Only one person has commented on the street about me having dreads. If you are insecure about getting dreads, they likely won't last long. But it sure sounds like you are pumped to get them. Have fun on Friday and post lots of pics for us. I've been loving my journey so far.
i get far more positive reactions than negative. Maybe it's I never even acknowledge any negative reactions hence only recognizing the positive ones.
Ewww last time I was in a club all this men in high viz jackets ate my dreads. It was vile and I cried because I had to spend the night and following day with spit in my hair.
What the hell are you talking about now? Are you really trying to say that liberals are more judgemental than conservatives?
corey some dumb shit....but I don't think left or right would stereotype people with dreads more than next. But as rule of thumb, yes the fucking libs are way more judgmental than any conservative. And when I say conservative, I mean the real conservatives, the same conservative principles the country was founded upon. Not the "wanna-be" conservatives that go around bible thumping that are just as extreme as the far left.
I've never had horrible comments to my face. I've had loads of compliments.... the worst thing ever said to me (that i remember) was my aunt asking "can you ever take them out?" and me saying sure I can cut them off or take the time to try and brush them out, but i plan on having them for a while. the she just shrugged and said i've always been wierd, so they suit me" lol.. kind of a back handed compliment, but I like that people think I'm wierd. is that wierd? LMAO.
You're cracked. Conservatives in this country are the closest things to Nazis this world has seen since WWII.
Hes not cracked. Note how he didn't say neoconservative. There is a huge difference between the two. True conservatism has been lost in the states but is slowly making a comeback.
This is not the politics forum. The only time I got a negative comment on my dreads it was from an elitist ex-dreadie who thought they "didn't look very nice." Other than that, people would generally make nice comments, be more open and chat me up more readily, ask me for drugs or share theirs with me, etc. I wouldn't let possible comments from people sway me either way when it came to choosing whether or not to get dreadlocks.
