So my lovelies, I pose a question.

I'm an herbalist and a dreadie. I'm considering starting a business, perhaps on ebay, but I want some feedback.

I know we're all fans of Dr. Bronners, but would you ever buy homemade dreadie soap formulated with herbs (and love) specifically for certain scalpyish issues such as dandruff, oily hair, dry hair,... I could make castile shampoo with herbs to encourage hair growth, to strengthen hair. The possiblities are endless. Basically it would be Dr. Bronners with a punch.

Before I go and buy/collect all the herbs and essential oils I'd need, as well as the bottles and such, I just want to know if anyone would be interested in that if I were to offer it, and what do you think is a fair price to ask for either 8 ounces or 16 ounces. DreadheadHQ and Knotty Boy appear to be all that's available on Ebay, and they go for around 20.00 for 8 ounces! Mine would be much better than those!!

I pay about $6 for an 8oz bottle of Heritage Products Organic Olive Oil Shampoo, and think that's way too high but it's the only unscented shampoo I can find that does not contain SLS or SLES. I've recently found certain bar soaps (home made for me by a friend) work great on my hair. There's really no reason in the world to spend $20 for a bottle or bar of shampoo.

yeah it would be hard to beat dr bronners quality and price. I think the best way to do it would be to make like a 4 dollar tester bottle so everyone can see whats up and if they like it.

Still hard to beat bronner, I guess its just scale and economics.

Still i wish yout he best of luck

Well the thing is the castile base WOULD be bronners (Dr. Bronners unscented Baby shampoo) so I would be adding herbs and oils.

I thought most people would say I can't beat Bronners, I know it's like THE dread shampoo, but I thought I'd ask anyways see what people were interested in.

Also since I would be using Dr. Bronners, the price of mine shouldn't have to be much higher than plain ol' regular Bronners, just enough to make a bit of profit on the herbs and my time.

Only thing is it'd be hard to market it so that its easier for people to go through the trouble of ordering it over the net rather than jsut drivin to your local organic shop and grabbin a bottle.... But, if you could create something that is great quality and also inexpensive enough that the avg consumer would go through the hassle to order it.....it'd be great

Yeah, I'm not trying to be Knotty Boy or anything, I'm just a hippie trying to make a little income doing something I love for something I love. Personally, I'd pay like 12.00 for a bottle of shampoo, if it was organic/herbal and good fer my dreadies. The Dr. Bronners I buy is already 14.00 soooo. I just don't want to seem like I'm trying to make a living off of dreads. I don't see this any different than patchwork clothing or jewelry. Plus, even though Dr. Bronners is great, I won't deny that, it's still a company, I like homemade things :):)

I haven't made any soap, although I do plan on making soap in the future. I just really didn't think about making my own castile, honestly. It didn't occur to me, thanks for the idea though :)

edited to say I searched about making my own castile, and it appears I would need to make hard soap to make liquid castile. I have searched for lye EVERYWHERE and it seems the meth-heads have caused it to be a order online sort of thing. Also, does anyone know a good recipe for castile soap?

I would still probably start out using ready-made castile until I could perfect my soapmaking skills, it seems to be quite the process.

To answer your question...yes, I'd be interested. DHHQ soap makes my head itch and I have VERY sensitive skin. Could you make something that I could use. Everything seems to irritate my skin these days.

I'd personally love to try some homemade dreaddie shampoo with castile soap as the base. PM me if/when you decide to start making it, because I'm very interested.
