i found this once, i was ganna try it but havent yet

    http://www.angrycaninelovestick.org/

click [dreads], scroll all the way down to 'Extending real dreadlocks with synthetic dreads' and look for the link that says 'An excellent method of permanently extending real dreads was devised by Vibrata Chromodoris and you can find a page with step-by-step pictures here.'

it looks like quite a good idea, but i havent tried it so i cant say yay or nay

Dreadlock extensions are common here in Asia. I think they are crocheted on. In fact, the guy who did my dreads brought some dread extensions and asked if i wanted it done on me but i declined. Seems a little weird to have someone elses hair on your head.

take a few roped dyed black staple them to your skull

srry if u just want ther look fake.. get 1 if those giiffy hatdss with fake dreads attached
if u wanht dreads grow yoiur own
but if u just wanna be fake then go with the hat

if your white why is it you want to have hair that looks black?
im not sating theres anything wrong with black hair iu just find it rather strange that you 1 want fake hair and 2 want fake hair that looks like another races and 3 just want to do it like a costume

dreadlock extensions are usually permanent. they are sewn in or crocheted in at the end of the real lock. there is no way to extend the fake lock just temporarily (a day or two).

if you do not have real locs at all and have normal hair, the only way to get the dreadlock look is to put what youve got in a ponytail and attach the fake dreads to your ponytail with a band. if you dont have enough to make a ponytail, it aint gonna work.

    to make a fake lock:

separate kankalon (acrylic faje hair) into pieces about the same width as a dread. put a tiny rubber band at one end. backcomb the shit out of it. palm roll well. then steam the lock with steam (water) until it melts itself into a lock.

thats how you do it. its pretty easy. sewing it in to make it look good is hard.

    but no, not "temporary"

I have extensions- but they're mostly my bf's hair, wich has perfectly merged into one with my own dreads (he got them out of his brush and rolled them untill it was a dread) so it looks very real, and my best buddy's hair wich is only slightly darker and just one yakhair one at the front thats all
it looks very nice and it has memories :)

I would never rock extensions, but then when you say they come from your BF or BFF, then I think, "You know... that's kind of cool!"

Do your thing. Post some pics when you get a chance!

man, bunch of haters in this thread! to each his own! what's wrong with wanting to try out a dreadlock "look" without making it permanent? i for one have dyed my hair every color and cut it every style in the book.

anyway, since there is a severe lack of helpful information in this thread, i took the liberty of finding you a site about synthetic dreads, which can be removed after a few weeks and don't damage your hair too much. they are particularly popular among ravers....

and here are a few pictures

of course they don't look real. but they DO look fun.

there are billions of people in this world. not everybody fits a certain stereotype. you may classify yourself as being within a certain group, but not everyone has to...
