I'm trying to get my hair to do the whole dreadlock thing..... It's mid-long! I've been using bee's wax, and it just makes my hair greasy and totaly not close to dreadlocks! Any suggestions?

WAX IS EVIL! Wash your hair with hot hot water until you get all that gross wax out. Wax will only hinder the locking process and will attract dust and dirt. It will stay in your dreads and become mouldy with time. After you wash out the wax, section your hair and back comb. Aloe vera is great for taming the frizzies and it helps your hair lock up faster. Check out Knotty Know How in the personal forums. Lots of great advice there. Good luck!

Dread HQ has a great set of directions on how to do dreads. Just leave out the part about waxing. :) They even have a video on how to backcomb.

Have you tried using aloe vera? It tames the frizzy fly away hairs, strengthens and tightens your locks, and it washes out, leaving no residue. I swear by it.

I haven't heard of this aloe vera stuff. I'm going to have to use it on the boyfriend who wants his locks done mid-month. I did the natural backcombing thing and there wasn't much flyaways after palm rolling.

Wax is a bitch. You will have dreads stuffed full of slimey gook. Mold. Dust. That only hinders the locking process.

the whole point of wax is use sparingly....if your dreads are full of wax you have used way too much.....your hair naturally absorbs some of it so only use in tiny amounts and not horrible residue! :D Yeah come to the dread forums for tips....fleassy is all clever!

i'd say dont use ANY wax, your hair will knott naturally. all wax does is hold the hairs in place.
Basicall the hairs need to be ably to move naturally so as they can knott up. Al wax is doing is glueing the hairs together.
