Im seriously consittering getting dread locks, but i heard that its very difficult for white people to get good dreds. So i did some research and i found that anybody with any hair type can get get really good dred locks in one day. I guess its done chemicaly and it costs about 400 dollars. i consitering doin it that way for one, it would probably be hard for me to get good dredlocks any other way. Two, it only takes a day! Has anybody here got dreds done that way or know anybody who has. Any insight it oppreciated. I just want to hear first hand about it before i go on with it. Thanks alot.

all that process does is ruin your hair. its a dread perm!! it burns it together and makes it super frizzy..... i locked mine up and im a white girl with really fine hair and they are coming along beaqutifully. not perfect yet but they will have time to grow and mature and i can see the progress.............

so basically it makes your hair looks really ugly and fake when you get it done that way? Are there any benefits of getting it done that way? i just have a few mroe questions... Do you know if it damages your hair to the point where it doesnt grow back right when you decide to grow it back out. also, how did you get your dreds done and it it more work than its worth? I really like how it looks on black people when they get their dreds twisted. i heard taht doesnt work as well for white people, and the only ways are to back comb it and let it go natural (which takes for ever).

I started to grow in natural dreads without meaning to. Needless to say, it was fucking hell getting them out.

aaah, dread perms are not nice, your hair will want to cry. You can dread them up yourself or get a friend to help and then just let them naturally dread together, they'll look better and be much much cheaper.

Dreads arent a hair style. They are more a life style. You cant expect to get them in one day.
Dread perms with ruin your hair. Yes you hair will grow back but unless you cut out the bits you permed they will always be horrible.

Dreads are knotted hair... not twisted hair... not permed hair... not glued together with wax hair... they are knotts and tangles. You will NOT get this over night no matter what you do.

yeah, what they said. listen, in my white skinned, fair and silky haired opinion, all you need to do is grow your hair a bit. no way in hell would my hair have locked if it wasn't to my shoulders. when it hit that point, i had no choice but to allow them to do their work. besides that, use dr.bronners hemp bar soap.
meditate on what you're doing and why. to look cool? i'm not saying that mean or sarcastically, i mean, they DO look cool! it's just that it goes so much farther beyond that...people are going to stop you on the street, black people, white people...and they're going to ask you how you made them. and why...
put yourself in a situation so that you can proudly answer them!
    time will tell for you.

i oppreciate all of your thoughts, and after reading all the negative feedback on dred perms im prolly not gonna be doing it that way.my hair is about 9 or so inches long now so im prolly jus gonna find a good professional place and let them do it for me, cause i have no idea what im doing and neither do any of my friends... im sure if i did it they would jus look plain shitty. As for dreds beeing a lifestyle, i disagree. in my opinion, and thats just an opinion, dreds are no different than any other hair style, just a bit less popular, and alot more maintenance. And of course im doing it because i think they look good. why else would i get them done? If someone walks up to me on the streets and laughs at me, or asks me a why my hair looks like that ill just smile and use the wise words of ben harper "My choice is what i choose to do, and if im causing no harm it shouldnt bother you." i dont feel like they are anything to be ashamed of...thank you all soo much for your advice!
