I am just curious from the people here how far you would be willing to drive to the person you are dating. Would you date someone no more than 60 miles? 100 the max?

From my house, 25 miles in every direction will get me to about 90% of the population.

If i decided to make that 25 miles 50, or 60 at max, then i will have a much much bigger chance of finding more girls...cause im going into new territory and its bigger...lol

That extra 40 miles though ...fuck

    anyways thoughts please

depends on the quality and quantity of sex.

i really don't have an answer to this. i guess i would have to make a decision when the situation came up.

If i decided to go into this new territory it will always be a 45 minute drive. Might even be an hour sometimes at night...

I am going to assume the sex would be good, cause if its not, i will tell the girl its not good, then if it still dont get better i will tell her im leaving. Rule for anyone im with.

Though being 45 mins away, im guessing i would see her once or twice a week at most.

Depends if there's public transport available as well, that factor can change things for sure.

But assuming their isn't and your only method of travel is a car, I'd go for 100-150 miles. But she'd have to be worth it though in all other aspects of a relationship. I don't think I'll go that far just for sex and not something more, stable, and good.

And she'd have to be ok with 1 visit twice a week.

I'll go about 6 miles if he's REALLY awesome, but I don't like going more than 3. I hated it when my boyfriend lived across town.

damn, never move out of the city then, unless you're willing to date ANYONE who's within the acceptable distance.

I was once in a relationship where we lived 2,300 miles apart, needless to say there was a lot of back & forth and I don't think I could do that again for various reasons.

The relationship I am currently in started out w/ us living about 3 hours apart, though now that we live together, it was more than worth it. I probably would prefer to date in state, but then again I hadn't had very positive experiences with that before. But hey, never know with love, eh?

I'm not planning to move out of the city... I don't think there are a lot of neuroscience jobs outside of major metropolitan areas.

well, you could always commute, although i suspect if you won't live more than 6 miles from a significant other, you're probably looking for a place to live as close to work as possible.

Other things are more of a priority than dating for me and I don't want to spend a lot of time driving back and forth. Plus, this is Oregon. There are pockets of awesome, and big wide open expanses of scary as fuck. There are very few people outside the urban boundary who I would be remotely compatible with, unless I'm willing to go to Eugene or out to the coast or one of the other small pockets of not-backward-baseball-cap-wearing sheep-fucking homophobes and racists.

oh, so the problem is that people are prejudiced. almost every person from a particular group, at that. i see nothing hypocritical about this...

Let me put it this way; drive time is time I could have spent studying.

Unless the guy is willing to always come to me, which sounds pretty one-sided, it's just not likely to happen.

I live walking distance to three destination districts, and I intern downtown. I live in a small city with an urban growth boundary, which means I'm not talking about six miles of open country road, I'm talking about six miles of complete pain in the ass traffic much of the time. I really don't have much incentive to seek a partner who lives outside the urban growth boundary. My own neighborhood is even better, because it means that with my (and presumably, his) busy schedule, we would actually get to see each other more than once a week.

I own my house, so I won't be moving anytime soon. I'll be doing research at the university, which is across town.

That was meant to be obviously over the top tongue in cheek... an Oregon joke by a native Oregonian. Also it never stops raining here, there's two feet of mud, and we're inbred, nice place to visit but please don't stay, etc. etc.

No, but really, why do you seem so affronted that dating is simply not that much of a priority for me?
