i want to dye a few of my locks dark purple, i was wondering if whether you guys think i should bleach them first or just dye it. i've included a picture so you know how dark my hair is. however, i was thinking i could do it without bleaching, because i think it would look kind of cool to not be able to tell that some of them are purple unless you are in the correct lighting? please tell me your thoughts! keep in mind i have only had these dreads for about a month
When it comes down to it this is an opinion thing, if you want subtle purple in correct lighting, don't bleach. If you want noticable purple, bleach. I suggest not bleaching however because it's a bitch.
i was thinking the same thing. i could def see myself accidentally dying small parts of other dreads and such haha
yeah only bleach if you realli want to. it's a pain in the ass. I'd say if you got some directions or manicpanic purple and left it on whatever dreads you want overnight wrapped in cling film then it'd turn out cool and a good colour. Also the colour takes better if the dreads are damp,,,not ringing wet just moist
Not bleaching will make the purple dull, and you won't notice it in your hair, it will just look like a murky dark brown, and it will wash out in one or two washes. Bleaching will make the colour brighter, but again the purple will wash out quickly and it will leave a faded purple. You only need a very small amount of bleach to dye two or three dreads, so I recommend getting the separate powder and liquid, then you can mix the amount you need. Shop bought ready-mixed "blonde" colours you will need to mix the whole bottle.
This. My locs are a month old today and I lost a couple due to all the rinsing I had to do because I bleached, toned, and then dyed. It'll likely fade but if you have leftover dye, mix it with an equal part of conditioner and everytime you wash and condition (if that's what you do) use that conditioner.
Really think about whether you want to bother dying them. Once people start they usually can't stop and they are never happy with their hair color. I think you'd be happier just leaving them your natural color. Just my 2 cents though.
oh my fucking god, is that **** still here. DON"T PUT CONDITIONER ON BABY DREADS! DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY ADVICE THAT BEAUTIFULWARRIOR GIVES UNLESS YOU HAVE HER HAIR TYPE. of course she has me blocked like a puss, so....
Thank you to the person who suggested I view Vig's trash. She's at best an elitist and at worst a racist so I won't be viewing her again though. I use conditioner once a week because I don't want weak dreads. You want them to lock but you still want your hair healthy. If you don't ever use conditioner find some other way to occasionally apply the color to your hair. I use conditioner so it's a kill two birds with one stone thing. The less rinsing you have to do the better. Water pressure from the shower can disrupt what you're trying to do. Vig (I'd rather call you vag because you appear to have the brainpower of one) people can think for themselves. If someone doesn't use conditioner in their routine already then they won't try it. Putting the leftover dye in the conditioner is a really old trick that a lot of people have had success with. Keep my name out of your mouth. Better yet take your racist ass someplace else.
e dramz love. It's like the summer of love digested and shat out like diahorrea by teh inturnet Anyway OP, I tried using those vegan dyes to get purple only my hair was dark like yours way back when and you couldn't tell. You can either go with a dye like Schwarzkopf live colours and get something like this or you can bleach and get a much vibrant colour.
Then let her think what she wants, you can do the same. IMO it isn't racist, its true: white hair doesn't work the same as black hair, I could condition my hair and twist it and coil it or whatever and I WONT get dreadlocks. Feel free to call me racist for not agreeing with you though. OP baby dreads won't be able to handle the conditioner. In my experience, even when I wash with normal shampoo, my dreadlocks can take it, but all the loose haired little baby dreads just fall apart (whereas when I wash with just water, they survive)
''beautifulwarrior'' I may have to delete what you said it is completely unnecessary, untrue and you sound like a total retard. You can't just throw around the word rassist, get a clue! Your stupidity is not welcome around here bbz, if your gonna go for someone do it right
Lol I dont think its any worse than being called a "****" or a "Puss" but then again I saw nothing racist from vig either. Both are equally wrong so there's no need to delete only one post because of favoritism towards older members.
I hateee the c word I can't even say it. Anytime I hear it I have to tap my head, it doesn't give me the image of a vagina it makes me think of someone with no skin on their scalp and it got infected.
oh and p.s. whether it's favouritism or not the truth is that vig has given a lot more to this forum than BW and knows a lot more about african hair then anyone else on here does...so to call her a rassist could be damaging to people who come on here looking for advice..
Lol cant see how she would know more than someone who actually has that hair type, but regardless its nothing to make a deal out of if BeautifulWarrior thinks Vig is racist then thats her opinion and thats the way she feels. Honestly I saw nothing racist, but to pick one member over another is pretty lame cause this is supposed to be the dreadlock community not a society
There's a difference between having a difference of opinion and consistently and persistently looking for division based on race. Different people do different things to their hair. I offered that as an option IF the OP is using conditioner anyway. Again if they're not using conditioner already it's probably not a good idea for them to start using it. I'm operating on the assumption that people reading have a lick of sense. I do find her comments over the course of the past week to be racist which is why I called them that. Ding ding ding. That is the worst thing you could call a woman as far as I'm concerned. Yes I was insulting but at least I kept it to insulting her actions instead of just her person. And I think we've been members for equal lengths of time. I dunno KK is makes PERFECT sense that some racist white bitch knows more about black hair than an actual black person. PERFECT SENSE. Lux I have no issues with you and generally find you to be rather fair but REALLY?
On topic note: Be careful regardless if they're new. With a dye like Manic Panic, it's relatively chemical free and it just deposits pigments. If you're going to bleach then you have to rinse it completely 100% clean because those chemicals will eat away at your hair. Which means a ton of rinsing and you could possibly undo some work.
<e-dramaz> You, as a black woman, have completely different hair than me, as a white one. No one said its a bad thing. There are clear difference between races. Pointing them out doesn't make you racist. (Although, dare I say, playing the 'you're a racist white bitch' card surely won't help your argument) </e-dramaz>
