Do you think we should start looking more in depth for another planet to migrate to after we screw-up Earth? I think we should go to Mars, and here is how we can do it. By releasing greenhouse gases into the Martian Atmoshpere the planet would eventually warm. The caps of Mars which most think contain ice. the melting of the ice would create oceans and revive the planet letting plants create a more adaptable atmoshpere. (Farfetched I Know)
terraforming isnt a one day thing ..that can take a longggggg time ..by then monkeys will rule this planet anyways
SMGOL (Splitting My Guts Out Laughing)! Say Fluffer, have you checked out Mars recently? Average equatorial temperature and pressure resemble conditions 60,000 feet above Earth's South Pole, but without the oxygen. Not exactly Cancun or Acapulco. Now don't take this personally Fluffer, but I think you'd make a fine Republican Congressman!
You know what? If things get too bad here, I see no reason for us not to move back into the oceans that we made the mistake of leaving so many hundreds of millions of years ago. Oh dear, we never should've left...
Kurt Vonnegut's novel, Galapagos, pursues that theme. It's a good read and should have you rolling in the aisle. In the novel, a virus wipes out must of the human race, leaving a couple dozen left on the Galapagos Islands to carry on. Over several hundred thousand years, those people with small, streamlined heads (and smaller craniums) are naturally selected in reproduction, because they are more efficient at catching fish. The remaining humans on the islands evolve into a new creature very much like a dolphin. Predation by sharks limits the population.
This reminded me of something... Does anyone know anything about Underwater Birthing and or Dolphin Midwives? I just finished reading a book that touched lightly on it... and it was some amazing stuff!
Hurrah, I awake from yesterday Alive, but the war is here to stay So my love, Catherina and me, decide to take our last walk through the noise to the sea Not to die but to reborn, away from lands so battered and torn Forever, forever
NO. I think we ought to let this earth die a peaceful death and let mankind do the same. It will eventually begin again and we won't be around to fck it up. I have no problem w/ life on earth ending but feel we have no right to fck up the entire solar system.
its not too late to save our planet guys. Its just gonna take a few years of technological advancements to stop fucking this place up. (cuz its gettin fucked up). But the planet can repair itself if we start NOW figuring out a way to live a cleaner and more efficient lifestyle
the idea that we should stay here and live or die by how we treat this planet is valid. interplanetary colonization is concievable, but extremely time consuming, resource draining and of no interest to the 99% of humans who wouldn't be going on the voyage. if we can stabilize this planet in the future, then we should definitely colonize other worlds. we would have shown we have the maturity as a species. but we need to stop acting like spoiled children first. an alternate idea would be somehow downloading our collective consciousness into a computer and living out our existence in a virtual world. we could travel anywhere in the universe, express ourselves with full creativity, eliminate pain and suffering and restore the earth in the process. extremely far-fetched, but perhaps our ultimate destiny. our fleshy vessels may just be temporary homes on the journey towards existence as information. this will require an understanding of the very nature of consciousness though, and that might be thousands of years away, if it ever occurs.
That's called MATRIX. Maybe that's only way, people are to stupid and egoist to stop destroying planet. When we go to the mars (if we go?) we start doing same thing nd fucked up another place. Humans never die peacefull. People are disaster, big greasy problem of this world.
mohave: yeah it would be a matrix, except controlled by us and not the machines. it's an old idea, dating from way before the movies, but if we can do it, then why not? maybe keep all our bodies in some massive facility while the planet recovers from our embarassing adolesence, then re-emerge later to enjoy it as it ought to be. in the meantime we can visit whatever planets our imagination is capable of creating. the only limit is in the mind. i'm all for this theme of bypassing the old ways. we should already be eating stem cell meat and saving rainforests from being annihilated to make way for cattle.
there's nothing particularly hippie about wanting to download your consciousness. the topic itself is tied to ecology, because we may have to leave earth in the distant future if it becomes too polluted. we know what harm we are doing, so we should attempt to reduce it now, while the job isn't so big. eveything is connected... apart from maybe some of your lateral-thinking neural networks?
