A hot bath usually helps me...

Also if you exercise...it helps with cramps too...surprisingly...

And then...there's always a good ole heating pad...It feels nice :)

Some good herbs for cramps are sage, cramp bark, motherwort, nettles. A tea with one or more of those should provide some relief. Also squatting is good for the pain. It takes some if the pressur off of the uterus.

valerian tincture helps if you have cramps
but to prevent getting them.....dose up on calcium for the 10days before your cycle begins. this has worked for me MANY times

oh & here is a 'cramp tea' recipe:
    1part crampbark
    1part pennyroyal
    1part yarrow
    some peppermint to improve flavor
drink 1/4 to 1/2 cup every fifteen min to ease cramps

    another good tip:
avoid eating or drinking ANYthing cold, cold foods & drinks will make cramps worse

bc coldness can cause your body to tense up or constrict thus making your muscles (including those in your pelvic area) more tense
think about when you're cold outside. "shivering" for example is like trembling....your muscles aren't relaxed
so, if you're drinking cold liquids while you have cramps, you're sending that coldness directly to your stomach which is VERY close to the crampy area that you're needing to relax. the idea is that warm vibrations (massage, heating pads, warming oils like ginger & pennyroyal-external ONLY, herb teas) will help your muscles to relax & open not constict.
    did this make any sense????

I have these things from a craft fair, they are filled with either rice and herbs, or cherry pits. You put them in the microwave to heat them up and put them on your belly. VERY nice. The one I bought a few months ago has a strap on it, so I can wear it like an apron, over my belly, if I need to move around when I'm OTR.

In bed, when I won't be moving much, I turn on the heating pad.

The only drawback is I'm in perimenopause and have hot flashes during my period, so I'm always throwing the thing off. But the warm feels nice as long as there are no flashes.

I just wrote this in a post somewhere but Yoga really helps cramps.
There are heaps of yoga positions dedicated to women, and for during peiods.

For mild pain, hot water bottle. For intense pain, DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS, as in bloody strong medication from your doc or even the hospital. I know some girls who don't do anything and accept the pain, they were the same with child birth. Why they feel the need to prove they have a lot of strength i don't know, but it's silly to do nothing and stressful on your body as well. Body's can go into shock when dealing with intense pain, i've experienced this. Put it this way, would a bloke do nothing? I don't hink so. Why suffer if you don't have to.
