Do you do anything? We colour eggs and eat chocolate and have a family dinner... And we nail half-naked Jews to crosses...good times.
Easter is still religious in other countries? Cause here it's about a big pink bunny, Hallmark cards, and presents. We do a candy basket for the kids. I mainly just do it to keep the relatives quiet. They get pissed when I don't follow tradition....
I make up spring baskets for the kids, usually full of their favorite candies like Reese peanut butter eggs and the solid milk chocolate bunnies. Plus I like to put in a few other things. This year I'm thinking of things they can make stuff with, since they love doing that kind of thing. I'll hit the craft store up for art supplies, tuck those in their baskets too. We color eggs, and hunt for eggs. I used to hide plastic eggs with little fortunes in them, but the kids could give two craps about reading the little papers in them since they were too excited about the baskets, so I quit doing that. I might be doing a brunch thing here for my mom and my little sister. Haven't made up my mind yet. It depends on my mom's work schedule, since she works the 12 hour shifts at the hospital, and if she's up all night, she's not going to be able to stay awake for a brunch. We're going over my grandmother's house later on Easter for dinner. My dad, my aunt, and my two uncles will be there as well.
The kids get candy baskets, not too fancy, and we do dinner. We don't do hallmark cards or presents. I was raised Anglican, so we got a new spring outfit for church when I was a kid.
Yes. Two weeks before we celebrate the Equinox and two weeks after we celebrate Beltaine where we all get naked and jump over a bonfire. Happy Fuckin' Easter.
I hate doing cards for any holidays. I feel like it's such a waste of paper. I know I probably sound awful, but... My extended family is super big on giving cards for everything. I wish they wouldn't do that. I mean, I know they do it to be nice but it really is wasteful. Which is why I rarely give out cards.
Have you ever been able to balance the egg? Or have you never tried? I just figured since you're one of the few people who actually know when the Equinox is and what it is, you might have tried. Spare your jokes. They're not funny.
We actually celebrate the Equinox in the manner that the Persians and other ancient followers of Mithras did: We jump over 9 fires asking the gods to take our bad luck and give us good in return. Celt were descendants of ancient Indo-Europeans like Turks and Persians. And we throw eggs into the sea. Or in our case, the lower Potomac.
As long as you realize that the Beltaine fire and the nine fires of Ostara are two different things. Yeah we like to play with a lot of fire.
Well now I do. Maybe as the ultimate celebration you could just light yourself on fire 9 times. Bet that'd be a crowd pleaser.
