    Hey all...

Has anyone tried eating Salvia (instead of smoking it)? I've read somewhere that you can achive the same effects by sucking on the leafs (rolled up like cigars). Can this work with extrace? Has anyone tried?

    sucking sucks

only if you chew it will you get effects
not that great an idea tho since lungs absorb it 50 times faster and get you to threashold quickly so you can trip briefly.

oral hardly gets to threashold due to very slow absorption of solid or dissolved salvinorin - requiring 50X as much total compound to achieve threashold,
but the threashold is longer and the ensuing trip is a bit longer too.

this can't be changed as salvinorin is a waxy crystal when presented to the digestive system vs a gas vapor or liquid droplet to the lung, both of which get into the alveoli instantaneously and rush via blood to brain, vs. slower routes in the digestive system.

chewed leaf massages the salvinorin into the gums. (works but slowly)
swallowed unchewed leaf just passes through the system (does not work unless very chewed up - emulsified even)

but swallowed elixir will be absorbed better than if held in mouth (more surface area -doh! :headsmack: ) still it will require more salvinorin than smoking since the surface areas for absorption in gut are less extensive and slower than in lungs.

however, you should note that smoking unextracted salvia divinorum does little to no good for most people, and smoking IS NOT the traditional method of ingestion. i've heard of large amounts of divinorum tea being consumed....seems likely....more common though, as far as i know (which aint to far) was CHEWING of FRESH leaves by shamans....the salvia you get in headshops or online is usually going to be dried, so i wouldnt recommend chewing it, and its supposed to taste bad, too, so you need dedication. i've heard good things however regarding oral use of very potent tinctures that can be purchased online...

if i were to try chewing it personally, i'd probably look around online for information on growing my own salvia, and then order a plant. there is one strain called the "palatable" variety used specifically for chewing. despite the name it is not tastey, just more bearable tasting than most other plants.

i think also traditionally when the shamans would chew salvia, they would use a dose based on groups of two or three leaves at a time. i forget which it is, but the total number of leaves apparently always was divisible by two or three...wish i could remember which number is the right one....i think it's three though
