ELO is one of my favorite bands. They were influenced by the Beatles, but had the progressive sounds of the 70's. They also had a french horn. I like them better than the Beatles. A lot of their songs are sad and melon collie and dark but others are more uplifting. But they have that electric orchestra sound, that meloncholie 70's sound. The 70's were a drag. They have a very dark song from 1977, "Turn To Stone". I got hooked to this band several years ago after listening to "Strange Magic", I just love the whole repertoire of this band.
please, please start posting on this place: http://www.eboards4all.com/841116/index.html they would love you there!
they took the formula from george harrison's all things must pass album and ran with it...... that huge wall of sound characterized by phil spector..... jeff lynne is just a poseur man.... they are an okay band, but hardly progressive and hardly innovative.
I only own their greatest hits from 1973 to 1981 and ELO II (1973). My favorite song on that album is the most depressing song from it, "Mama". My favorite ELO songs are: "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Turn To Stone", "Confusion", "Telephone Line", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Do Ya", "Don't let Me Down" and "Sweet Talkin' Woman". Actually I love the whole repertoire of this band. ELO is one of my top favorite bands of all time.
omg they are my favorite for all those reasons, your a rockess! they are never rog rock, and music experts say they were wrongly flung into that crowd by generilisations. They are pretty unique with the cellos and violas! and elo's best is out of the blue. first album i ever heard, and the best
I would say that they are a band who have made art rock and album oriented rock. They definately have progressive rock elemets in their repertoire, but many songs of their's are pop/rock/prog.
ELO did some great stuff. I think their best work was in the film Xanadu, songs like I'm Alive & Magic for Olivia Newton John.
ELO II (1973) is very much influenced by the Beatles Abbey Road (1969). This album by ELO is definately progressive rock.
