What do you have in your "Home Emergency Kit?"

I think we should all always be prepared for the worst and have an emergency kit at home for the instances where you lose power for days or something happens to your home in a natural disaster (or unnatural one depending on where you live).

So far, on my list, I have:
    Candles
    Matches/lighters
    Lanterns
    Water
    Canned goods
    First aid kit

I don't have one down here, but I did back home during winter. So many winters we were practically snowed in, with frozen water pipes. If we did get out of course the shops were empty.

It had candles, matches, tins of food, rice, pasta, water, and other necessary things.

It's worse in England, 3 inches of snow and it comes to a standstill.

I don't have an emergency kit. The beau keeps a box of MRE's and a closet full of guns. That's his emergency kit.

    thinking about the hurricane?

you may want to use flashlights and keep the candles/lanterns as back up only

lots of people end up setting their homes on fire accidentally, and then it's pretty tough for the fd to get out there

a battery powered radio might be good

not bad to have a cell phone charged up, though service might be out

good idea to have a couple of days or so of any Rx medications and at least a little bit of cash. If power is off there are no atms/credit cards but cash is alway functional. Having blankets and some heavy duty plastic which could make a shelter is cool too. Probably Red Cross has a great list since they are responders to disasters.

Yeah, I always try and have cash on my these days, especially since we've gone without power this summer more than I have in my entire life!

And when it comes to plastic, I have 3 huge tarps in my closet and plenty of blankets...

I definitely am thinking about the hurricane! But its good to have this stuff anyway, especially since we were faced with an awful winter which made going anywhere impossible, a tornado, and now a hurricane!

Luckily I have 5 extra batteries for my cell phone and car chargers if necessary...that's what I did when we got the tornado and had no power for the night.

I hear you with a bad winter. This past winter, we went without water for 2 weeks because the main water line in our basement was frozen solid. It took my husband, myself, and a plumber to fix it. Brutal!

Dressings, ointments, lotions, powders, and medications for every aspect and function of the body, including antibiotics, catheter and even morphine. Make sure prescription drugs are officially labelled on board.

Canada doesn't have "weather emergencies". Here we call them "seasons".

The storm is definitely coming our way and we’re in for some serious shit

I’ve got bottled water, flashlights w/spare batteries, transistor radio w/ spare batteries, both cars have been topped off, plenty of cash on hand, canned and dried goods, steaks which should keep just fine in the freezer for a couple of days; I cleaned the backyard grill and removed everything that could serve as a projectile.

Lets get it on with mother fucking nature :2thumbsup:

Got this ready plus a few others.

    Gasolie
    Oil
    Guns and ammo.
Knives are very useful never know when you need something cut and im not talking about hunting but just cutting something. Kitchen knives only go so far.

Of course were you live varies. None the less i will always have firearms, gas, and knives. Its not promoting violence just being prepared. If we lose power for two weeks and the stores are closed its off into the woods to hunt.

I keep a spare ham in the fridge.

Really though, I have a first aid kit a flashlight and handtools. I also have a gun, so if disaster does occur, I'll shoot my neighbors and take their supplies.
