You can't prefer the Nice over ELP (well I mean you can, but can't compare em)... only Keith Emerson was in Nice... wouldn't that be like saying you ding King Crimson over ELP again only one member (Greg Lake) and he was only a bassist on Court of Crim King for the 2nd album (Ode to the Posedon) he only sang. Tarkus is best single song but I would say self titled as an album whole... Tank, Pebble, Knifes edge... I laugh to the age comment... I could have carried this conversation well into the night when I was 16 (13 years ago)
Well, best ELP album is Pictures at Exhibition... Kind of impressionistic rock album I think... Nice and, weird... TRY THIS WHILE TRIPPING... Shit man! REALLY HAzzzy..
love elp.keith emerson has to be the greatest keyboardist alive, and no progressive collection cant be without brain salad surgery
I liked ELP at first but the music kind of wore thin after a while. Kind of pretentious noodling at its best. I still listen to a few songs from time to time. Notably, "The Barbarian," "Tank," and "Tarkus". the ballads are more lame as time goes on. I prefer Camel, Focus, Van Der Graaf Generator and a slew of other lesser known but just as good bands.
they were one of my faves in high school...saw them in toronto in the seventies...like that song..hoedown..this video shows keith emerson at his best..watch how his fingers dance around the keyboard....why are you not askin for music links on this thread
I like their catalog up to Welcome Back My Friends. Being a drummer, naturally I'm going to dig the band just for Carl Palmer alone. Also like primitive musical gadgetry so hearing Emerson with all of his Moog experimentation is serious ear candy, not to mention his way of tripping out the Hammond by jacking around it's tubes to give a barrage of crunchy sounds. One complaint though...Welcome Back was mixed really shitty. It sounds like someone stood outside of the venue while holding a tape recorder in his pocket. But the way the songs are played on that album are better than the original versions, I think. All in all, a stellar band.
