Who here likes Emo? I know i have to be in the mood to listen to it i have to be EMOtional lol sorry im a dork....
My own definition of emo is "punk for sissies that can't handle true punk", but I'm not an expert and in fact know little about it at all. I'm going to give my opinion anyway, though. Watch this: In my opinion, most of it isn't that good, it tends to sound childish, immature and very, very whiny, especially compared to "true" punk. Not that I listen such a lot of punk either. I guess the whiney part is why it's called "emo"... but emotional and whiny is something very different. Happiness and hatred are emotions as well, so all music generating or expressing emotions of any kind ( i.e. ALL!music ) could be called "emo". Maybe the poppy punkrock of today should be called "whyno" instead? Ah well, whatever flops your mop. ( saying that feels gooooood... you should try it! )
I like some bands that I guess are considered emo. I really like Taking Back Sunday. Saves The Day and The Get Up Kids are good too.
emo's not too bad, and the people that reside in that particular subculture are just so cute. alot of emo just bugs the shit out of me though. like dashboard. oh god dashboard. it's the worst thing ever. other things like bright eyes and mewithout you and the spill canvas are really good though.
well, i guess you could call the pAper chAse an 'emo' band, although i'd say its much darker, much more intense, and much more satisfying. It's great fucking stuff, I wish everyone could hear it. I suggest Hide the Kitchen Knives album, or Young Bodies Heal Quickly.
I'm not big on Emo, but the girls who listen to it are usually really hot, I guess that counts for something. They certainly beat out the hardcore punk girls. lol I have a bumper sticker on my car that says "Cheer Up Emo Kid". haha, Not as that's relevant or anything. A lot of the emo guitarists don't show it on the albums, but a lot of them have incredible technical prowess. Strange, I think. Guri Mushito of The Broken Lads (old Emo band, when emo wasn't known) did a clinic at G.I.T. and can shred like a mother fucker. He played Nicolo Paganini's 16th Caprice at concert speed. I have a 40 year old music performance teacher who's into emo and hardcore punk. He's greying and shit, it's pretty funny.
EMO SUCKS. PERIOD. JANE'S ADDICTION OWNS ANY AND EVERY EMO BAND EVER. AND JANE'S ADDICTION ISN'T EVEN THAT GREAT. GOOD, BUT NOT GREAT. BUT I DIGRESS. EMO SUCKS GOAT TAINT.
^loves janes addiction btw. i like emo. taking back sunday and dashboard confessional are my favorites. and i HATE when people say emo is for sissy faggy kids who won't stop crying. ALL good music has that kind of emotion. emo just seems to focus on it all the time. i really dont know what im talking about, but i still like emo. so there
I'm a sissy faggy kid. I don't like most emo. I like a lot of different sorts of music, but most of it is ( much ) louder than emo. Music and sexuality / ( lack of ) masculinity have got very, very little to do with each other. Good music can have happy ( Sonata Arctica, Finntroll... ) or desparate ( My Dying Bride, The Swans... ) or downright misanthropic ( Abyssic Hate, Pest, Dark Fortress... ) atmospheres too. If you only listen to music with one certain mood, and never try something else too, you do yourself a disfavour. By the way, sorry to break it to you, but all the emo I've heard on tv really sounds quite happy.
At the risk of looking like a nerd, apparently what you hear on MTV isn't really emo. And I am a sissy fag too. I quite like Merzbow. Give me a medal. I quite like some emo stuff, Capn Jazz and various other Kinsella projects. And yes, it very rarely is all boohoo crying. I've never heard a genuine emo track that sounds like that, it's mostly either very jubilant or just plain angry.
Moonflower I heard you were pretty from people in the forums I've never really seen you ....But I just did wow you are beautiful what pretty eyes
In the words of Anti-Flag...."indie sux, hard-line sux, emo sux, you suck!". But on a more serious note, I to have been a fan of emo at one point of my life but I have discovered that there is much better music out there.
lol. emo is supposed to be "emotional punk rock"... or so i've been told. it's pretty much just really emotional kinda sappy lovey stuff. soem of it's ok but alot of it isn't good music at all. like dashboard confessional, they're the negative end of the emo spectrum.
