Manoj Singha, the governor of the state of Kashmir in India extolled Emperor Chandragupta Maurya ( 350 BCE - 297 BCE) and the influence of his administrative doctrine on the governance model for modern India and said that his good governance helped shape the modern administrative framework of the country.

Chandragupta Maurya was the first emperor of India in recorded history, and was the grandfather of the Indian emperor Ashoka the Great who was noted for his patronage of Buddhism from a minor Indian religion to a world religion.
