    Make it so, people!

I want my U.S.S. Enterprise right now, dammit. I'd like to think that I didn't spend my life watching those shows, and building those models for nothing.

At least someone out there is trying to get it done right now. If I win the lottery, I'll kick in a few bucks myself for this project.

I would at least like to see it being built before I kick the bucket. To know that we are really reaching for the stars like I dreamed of as a kid would be awesome.

Check out the links in this article, and on the guys website too. I like the part where they say warp drive would kill everyone and everything if it was ever created, and then some guy says: "Nope, I've got that all worked out already." in the comment section, lol.

Hey Generation Y, build the danged thing..

Still would have to get around to inventing warp drive.

    First Question is why?

If it is about visiting little green men, The Drake equation is over simplified, but if you look into it, if it is a case of number of planets a certain size and a certain distance with an iron core so they have a protective magnetic field and a certain amount of water and oxygen on the surface, then still maybe a million type planets in our galaxy

Buuuuut, time is the kicker. 1 million such planets even over the last 5 billion years is 1 every 5000 years. And 1 million is probably a far too generous estimate and its only for life sustaining planets, doesnt mean they get to intelligent hominids or all such life has a tendency to blow itself to kingdom come, or get wiped out by a comet or supernova.

On our planet its only going to be around 1 1/2 billion years between life first forming and our sun getting too hot.

Very possible we may be the only ones in our galaxy at this point in time.

    Thats time, then there is space;

Diameter of our galaxy is just over 100,000 light years. To get across it within 5 years, you would need to be travelling 20,000 ly a year.

In post TNG star trek warp 9 is 1516 light years a year. So you would need to be travelling at somewhere around Warp 25, even though in the star trek universe Warp 10 was supposed to be infinite

Alpha Centauri 4.3 years away at Warp 1, 1 day away at Warp 9. Centre of the Universe 32 years away at Warp 9

So forget Warp Speed, you'd have to be able to fold space or go a whole lot faster than Warp 9 to get anywhere fast enough to search for the remote chance that there is even 1 single other planet our there at the same time

And even then to be dissapointed because they are more interested in their own version of Bieber fever, or who there version of Kim Kardashian is currently dating over a bunch of weird pink, brown and yellow monkey looking things that are too far away to ever holiday to. Or they then just want to wipe us out cos Jesus told them the Sabbath was supposed to be on a Monday

Light speed travel is impossible, let alone warp speed. Time slows to a stop at light speed so if you could, a travelers perspective would be instantaneous. Lightspeed travel would also be flying blind with absolutely no functioning equipment. The ships computer would have to calculate the future trajectory of every single object in space for as many years as traveling to avoid collisions.

    What about wormholes then.

String theorists suggest space wormholes possible
    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/sciencefair/post/2011/08/star-trek-wormhole-string-theory/1

The show 'Stargate' had some space ships in it that created there own wormholes to get around in space, if I'm not mistaken.

What if that's exactly how some aliens have been getting to Earth all this time?

Enter: 'real star gates' on Yahoo for some interesting reading..

I read somewhere a while back where someone said their great, great, etc. Grandpa told a story that he'd met a tall woman with big super blue eyes. He said she told him that her people were stranded on Earth for some time until the gate in space opened up again and they could go back home.

That is awesome! They should do it.

That trillion dollars would be so much better spent than the trillions wasted on absolute bullshit in this country alone.

There was something that popped up this year about scientists in Europe finding background radiation that predates the Big Bang.

I wont bother finding it or sourcing it cos it hasnt been corroborated yet. But the point being all that stuff isnt rock solid. They still cant really work out what Dark Matter is

There was also something about a Swedish company talking about funding a mission to mars as a Global TV show, Big Brother style (the TV version that is, not George Orwell)

Sound ridiculous, but as far as Mars and The Moon are concerned, Minings going to be cost prohibitive, so the only real reason would be Tourism.

Building a space shuttle that looks like the Enterprise and then taking you to a hotel on the moon, probably more likely to happen before we make it to Alpha Centauri

I'm all for space exploration, whether or not we find sapient ETs. Investing in space technology gives humanity a goal, one not of violence but of science. Not to mention all the practical benefits producing new technologies begets.

    Wormholes are pretty sketchy THEORY!

You have us flying in a Boeing 747 before the discovery of aluminum.

It would only be nice IF IT WAS THE ORIGINAL MODEL! (NCC 1701)

That was the best ENTERPRISE (On the orginal series)

Time to get my geek on! The original model is actually just NCC 1701, the NCC 1701-A came into service at the end of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

meh.. why would the US build an enterprise when we all know the US would rather stick funds into a death star to destroy terrorist harboring planets
