Something I've been curious about, especially with all the pregnancy sig tickers that say the exact date the child is to be expected--in your experience, has the expected arrival date for your child/children been accurate?
not at all... croix was i believe 2 weeks late... noah was at least 2 early... riley was a whole 4 weeks earlier than the date! they were all fully developed and healthy as well.
I can't speak for myself, but all of my family members and friends that have birthed recently were really off
My children were 5 & 3 weeks early - but I had genetic issues at work. I know that for my mom, I was SIX WEEKS late (and absolutely sure about conception dates) and my sisters were 2 & 3 weeks early. My SIL's daughter was born 2 weeks early... she may have the same genetic problem I do though. So out of 6 babies, none of us were even close. love, mom
My daughter we 1 week early, but we were not totally sure on our dates. My second child was 10 days late and the third was 2 weeks late, some of it may have been that I was just not psychologically prepared for labor and kept putting it off in my mind. I am not sure if that makes any sense. Once I had the threat of induction from my midwife I quickly decided that I'd better go into labor and I did both times!
Well my due date for my oldest son was December 7th, but I gave birth to him December 2nd. My due date for my twins was June 24th, but I gave birth to them May 27th. However, they were induced as I had developed H.E.L.L.P. syndrome and severe Toxemia. Doctors said had I not come in for a routine check-up that day, they would have never know how bad off I was and all three of us would have died.
Nobody is born late or early. We're all right on time. That said, I think we refer too rigidly to EDD. It's estimated, and they don't really know. Too many OBs will schedule inductions just because a woman has gone a day or two over due-date. And heck, her dates might be wrong altogether! Moire was born 10 days late, according to EDD. But she was born exactly 9 months after conception.
I quite agree I was either nine days late or four days early, nobody could quite agree, and it was a long time ago. My brother was born exactly on his due date, and has been very punctual ever since.
My first baby was 9 days late. Due October 6, born October 15. I don't remember allof them, but I know they were all at least a week late. My daughter, (baby number 4) was 27 days late. Due May 3, born May 30. And no the date of conception was not wrong. She just took her own sweet time. Now, 29 years later, she still does. It seems normal that my pregnancies would be long, I had long 30 to 31 day monthly cycles. Kathi
My son was born 4 days after my due date. My daughter was born 10 days before because I had a scheduled c/s because she was breech. I honestly couldn't have handled carrying her any longer.
due dates are just a rough estimate to figure out how old baby is to help keep track of trimesters, certain things the mom's are able to do and not do, the times when they should be experiencing what, etc...they're more of a guide line than anything. A woman is actually full term by 38 weeks, but there is an extra two given before the due date (which is set a 40 weeks) and (supposed) to be another two weeks alloted for after the due date to allow for any discrepancies in miscalulations. Or the kids just don't wanna come out...or they come out too earily. For the most part, your body knows when it's time...like I said before, the due date is just a guide... leane was almost 2 weeks overdue after having an ultrasound when I was 7 weeks pregnant to find out her real gestational age. She was still healthy as could be, and the due date I had got me through the pregnancy just fine and dandy.
I was given about 4 dates. At first, Alexis was due Nov. 1. Then, after then sonogram, she was due Oct. 1. Then, the doctor felt my tummy and whatnot and changed the date to Oct. 31. Then, at the next appt., it was Sept. 29. They just really....didn't know what was going on. She was born Sept. 24, so she was 5 days early.
i was born at 28.5 weeks. I wanted the heck out of my momma!! I was 5 lbs. Not as healthy as my parents wanted me though 1 month is NICU and still have health issues but thats okay i can handle them just fine. If i was full term i would have been at least 11 lbs
The E.D.C. is the ESTIMATED date of confinement. Any ob/gyn will tell you it is considered right on time to be within 2 weeks either way (38 weeks to 42 weeks gestation). If you don't know exactly when you ovulated or conceived, it can be potentially way off, but they can tell with Ultrasound measurements (unless you're having a large for gestational age (or small for gest. age) baby, about when to expect delivery. I delivered my son at 37 weeks and my daughter at 38 weeks. both considered full term because of their weights and other development.
dd1 edd was march 11th and she made her entrace on feb. 18th at 8 lbs 3 oz and dd2 edd was november 15th and she arrived november 4th at 8 lbs : )
