I have facebook because I get bored at work, I struggle with deleting it constantly. When I graduate next year and get a new job that shit is getting deleted. Instead of deleting it now, I have a new ritual where I delete a friend a day, whoever's status pisses me off the most haha.

im not afraid. the context of my facebook page enlightens people i know to the person i am, which is a freedom i have never had before. i can share what i am thinking, and even my wackiest opinions, and no one i care about has to feel obligated to respond. i am honest, and if the government wants to come after me i fucking dare them. theres nothing to get me on, unless they want to lock me in a rubber room for the country's safety. im a SAHM, at the moment, and i dont drive, and i live 45min-1 hour away from most of my friends/family. facebook is my social life, its how i talk to my friends. for me, the benefits outweigh the risks.
when it comes down to it, if you arent stupid about what you post, what can the government get out of a facebook page? if you are a survivalist/ prepper, dont post stuff about your new guns, or who has ammo in stock. if you are anti government, dont post anti government stuff.

you have to see facebook from more than one angle, or you do it a disservice. people used to live in the communities they grew up in, now families are scattered across the country. letters and phone calls were the ways to get in touch. then email. facebook allows us to share the things we would share in passing if we saw a friend in front of the hardware store. or while giving someone a hug in your kitchen. "guess what happened yesterday! i sat on a turkey." not enough substance for a phone call, just a little something that happened. facebook lets you share moments with people you care about, glimpses into who you are, that they otherwise wouldn't get.
