What can old hippies do to help after their own revolution collapsed back in 73? The failure of hippydom in the 1960's early 70's to produce its revolution has resulted in this right wing backlash that is now evident All the way from the student riots of the 60's through to the summer of love was a waste as hippydom turned into just a drugfest and hippies became dirty needle addicts in the backstreets of history. Germaine Greer and the feminist movement was its greatest attribute but all of that just ushered in a pseudo fascist tide of political correctness where - until two years ago the language of the culture actually stifled rebellion rather than promote it Today the politically correct culture is the toy of the right wing. They have appropriated it and as such it is no longer useful to the civilised revolution of the left as envisaged by hippies of the older sort. You are now at last free to think again and as long as you use common sense rather than adhering to cheap rhetorical in-stock comments then you are free to dissent. We no longer need to prove we are not rascist and sexist etc - we need to again move on from the obsession of language to prove how "with it" we are, and how liberal we are - we now need to move back into the language of rebellion and push the tide of antigovernment sentiment toward direct action on the streets - You failed once to provide enough demonstration - now you can find an outlet in the anticapitalist movement of the left wing - help us to organise and show support by getting on the streets to be counted The wombles are very well known anarchists on the UK scene with a lot of links to other organisations on the left - not just anarchists their information is regarded as upto date and accurate http://www.wombles.org.uk/ reclaim the streets is a GLOBAL anticapitalist movement that started in london but now has organisers in many of the worlds major cities http://rts.gn.apc.org/
the rebelotion never collapsed... not a bad idea to grow flowers when folks get killed for wanting to put flowers in guns
The revolution died? Let's see Equal rights for minorities, Liberation for women, End an illegal war, over all I think we did damn good. AND some pretty cool music to boot.
Maybe some delusional concept of remaking to whole world in the hippie image failed, but then it should. We don't need everybody to be clones. The Hippie revolution didn't fail for me. I believed the values of being kind to fellow man, nurturing the Earth, exploring my spirit, living my life as freely, as fully as possible. Believed it then and now at 60, still believe it. Raised a bunch of wild kids, learned another language, lived in the rainforest, found a way to feed my soul, laughed a lot. Got lots of plans to do more. Is the world as a whole the way I wish it were? Nah, it ain't, but there are some better things than there used to be and lots of good has come from this generation of folks. Failed..nah.
Do you realize, that every time a prople throw off the yolk of oppression for individual liderty and freedom the movement continues to grog. Peace be with you my brothers and sisters.
Its never died, now that all all the trendwhores have jumped off the wagon it just seems smaller, thats not really a bad thing though.
everybody has their reason for existance, compared to the others hair's more real than most. You want a revolution, wait til we attack Iran.i got lady bugs in the garden to control the aphids, but if the aphids are completely irradicated the lady bugs will leave.War is the catalist for revolution.
