Hey guys, a while back i picked up a large blower fan at a pawn shop for 30$ It looks like i got a good deal! The problem is that i cant find any information on the fan, inside or out. It does how every push a lot of air, it probably feels like putting your hand out the car window at about 70-80km/h. The reason that i need to know the cfm is so that i can make a DIY carbon filter, does the size of the filter have to be very specific for the fan cfm? Appreciate anyones 2 cents.
it's not exactly rocket science. You can guesstamate a bit, and if you really feel that the filtration's going to be puny, you can tinker and add more carbon. Just avoid a very common mistake of getting 'charcoal' rather than 'activated charcoal' or 'activated carbon' (not that I think you would, but it never hurts to mention it) What I'd do is call the manufactuer and tell them that you've bought this model used, tell them that it's going to be used for some bullshit project, and ask what the cfm would be, if you really want to know that badly. They should be able to tell you.
well, the rule of thumb for your fan is it needs to replace the air in the room in a five minute time period so I 400cfm fan would suffeciantly clear the air in a room 20,000sq/f or approx. 27x27x27f. Pretty big space. My guess is that the fan is more along the 140cfm range which is still seficiant to clear the air in a 700sq/f room which is more like 8.5x8.5x8.5. What you really need to know is home many pounds of carbon you will need to clean the size room you have. You fan is going to be seficiant to pull the air through a pretty good size room
