I'm having a pretty bad day, and it's all Big Brother's fault. My dad got promised a promotion to head of his department. He declined however, when his new boss offered only a three thousand dollar raise for him to take on both his job now and his new job which would mean three nights on the road a week, and twice the amount of paperwork. For comparison's sake, the pay raise should have been about 20 thousand, not 3. What really sucks is that he's probably going to get fired for not taking the job. It totally bites because the pigs are just trying to get him to do all their busy work for them at no cost in addition to his original job. And now he's not going to have a job at all. This means we'll be dependent on mine and my mom's pay until my dad can get a new job. My mom works for a school, and so we won't have any real money until school starts. Not to mention, her school is about to go under sometime before the year ends. This really sucks. Her pay is like next to nothing too, so we're going to be mainly dependent on what I can bring in. I work for myself, cutting grass for half the neighborhood and doing various odd jobs. If the grass grows, I have the potential to make about 120 bucks a week. This is good. When the grass stops growing though, I won't have a job until it snows and people need walks shoveled. I'm probably going to have to get another job somewhere, probably at a resturant so I can get tips. It'll take my dad a while to find a job. He has a degree in textile chemistry, but has been working as a safety engineer for a while. As evidenced by his being fired, they aren't exactly lacking anyone for the position. He has no experience as a textile chemist beyond college about twenty years ago. My mom will probably try and get a job at a university somewhere so I can get money for college, as we have none. What sucks the most is that we've been anticipating this promotion for a while now ever since the big pigs took us all out for dinner and mentioned it sometime last September. We were already planning on putting all the money into a college fund for me so I could go to a local university. We were going to go kind of thin on resources for a while since we knew my mom's job would give out, but in no way were we planning for both parents to be jobless. I'm going to have to work under a lot of stress this year until things stable out. I'll have to balance two jobs (one of which is weather dependent), 6 AP classes at school, applying for college somewhere, and applying for scholarships. My art courses alone this year will probably end with me staying after school for about three hours a week. This is going to be very difficult. In addition, I've already got into motion a county-wide protest of armed service recruiters in schools which was going to eat up a lot of time. *sigh* :H I suppose it's bad karma. I need some pot and I need to get laid. This sucks.
you sound in a good position My parents are both physc drop outs and, combined never made more than 25k per year, and often borrowed money from me when i worked as a tele marketer during hs, il tell you there is nothing worse than scamming other people, but i would justify it buy bringing the shopping list and saying ok, that guy was peanutbutter for me and my 4 siblings this week, but it dident really matter, College fund, ha!, lucky im 2 years in a thoushands in debt, but i supoose in the end you cant get blood from a stone, but you sure can crack it in half. but being poor has its upsides, an intinc with the street and comrodderie amongst the poor... you might not know we even have a saying, "never trust anyone who makes over 30k" but i know people have it worse then me so i try not to complaine.
Fascism - A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. Pig - Any of several mammals of the family Suidae, having short legs, cloven hooves, bristly hair, and a cartilaginous snout used for digging, especially the domesticated hog, Sus scrofa domesticus, when young or of comparatively small size.
I'm sorry you're having a rough time. You should be proud of your father for being strong and turning down the "promotion" though -- if he has the gumption and courage to not be a doormat for his boss, that is a wonderful thing. I am not sure if your father has been fired yet, you didn't say. But try to stay positive (sounds like moot advice, I know) and look on the bright side of things, if and when you find them. There's still a month left of summer, and there are many many many ways to save money. I myself and my husband are under the "middle class" -- he's a university student with a B. Sc. in Chemistry and on his way to a B. Ed., beginning this year. I do not have a university/college degree yet, but plan on taking Wildlife Technician in two years when he's finished his courses. We barely break our bills, and sometimes have to go without groceries. But I have my sewing machine and guitar, he has his computer and his PS2 (second hand from a pawn shop) and we're happy. Bright Blessings! Aphrodite Pretty
I know the poor scene. We've been on food stamps several times . In fact once (again with my dad), my dad asked his boss to lower his salary by 500 bucks so we could qualify for welfare. I suppose I just get pissed that America is run by the wealthy who don't understand what living below the 3 figure salary is like. As for 25k combined a year, yeah, that's about where we are.
That's bretty rough, but on the bright side It appears as if your family is close and all support each other. That is a really nice thing to be a part of!!! Work hard!. I'm a firm beliefer that persistence and hard work will pay off, at least down the road. For now, as long as you have food and shelter and each other that is most important. I know it seems a bit unfair with all the hard work and education not appearing to pay off, but try to keep an optomistic outlook. From my experiences, don't rely solely on job anouncements and postings. Many times people are hired for positions that weren't officially posted. They just enquired in person and set up an interview and the employer realizes that they could use someone additional. Just as a perspective, Two years ago I started with a competitive salary for my experience, but after a year I faced a pay cut and questioned wether I should stay, but I did and worked hard regardless of the pay (wich really wasn't bad, just less than I thought I deserved). Finally, some of my work payed off and I recently received a raise based on achievement that is a 10% increase from my starting salary. i am very thankful for that. So I feel that persistence pays off. Hope things work out for you.
