No city in my state has effective public transportation. Little Rock has a limited number of bus routes. They get more limited every year. The people who ride the bus do not pay a lot of taxes so they do not get good services. Little Rock spends its bucks trying to attract new malls by give away tax incentives. The only other public transportation is taxis, which are very expensive. Usually people will try to keep one old car running which eats up more of their money. With no credit, you can get major ripped off for a used car. Other than Little Rock there is, to my knowledge, no public transportation in Arkansas.
Duly noted We all try Awwww thanks- and I didn't get you anything for Christmas. How thoughtful and sweet!
I think effective points have been made- this is no exception. Unfortunately I think we may be metaphorically trying to teach a pig to sing. Questie would need to truly walk in the footsteps of the less furtunate to have any hope of grasping the situation- namely the tightening stranglehold that so-called non-poverty has on the working poors' life. He is clearly an exceptionally intelligent individual who tragically lacks a certain ability to empathize with others. Further, he isn't likely to listen to folks that he likely deems to be of inferior intellects. Don't know for sure that this is his attitude but it does certainly seem that way.
the thing is you can plan around anything, I do empathize, but every time I empathize with people I see things that make me wish I never had do you know how many people I knew in elementary, middle and high school who got free lunch, but also had cable, the newest video game console, and whatever game they wanted as soon as it came out? I have seen the breaks in the system, I empathize, I just think that you choose to overlook the majority of the sinners and see the few saints, most people who are on welfare put themselves there, how many people who were standing in line for xbox 360's do you really think could afford it? I'm sorry, but americans in the vast majority put their leisure time ahead of their food, and so they don't "take the time" (it took me 5 minutes to make my balanced dinner tonight) to make their food, they'd rather spend it watching t.v. they'd rather spend it playing video games, by the way, you can teach a pig to sing, I have 2, one can do a convincing impression of the supremes when the mood strikes her...... I think I am trying and failing to teach two bleeding hearts to see both sides of the fence and not just the "oh humans are good because that makes me feel better about me" side of the thing......
I see no point in arguing this further with you. I had a couple paragraphs composed but it struck me that I may just as well be arguing with a piece of sheetrock. You've already decided that I'm just some naive bleeding heart who is incapable of seeing faults in others. Well, I'm secure with that. Clearly you're not going to take anythingI post very seriously- you've made up your mind that the poor are that way willingly and are out to exploit the system and take unfair advantage of society. It must be quite something to have so very much figured out at 18.... with so very much time to make positive changes in the world you shouldn't waste your efforts on the internet dealing with annoying intellectual inferiors such as myself. Go forth and fix the world. ok- enough bad vibes from me...
Revisiting this... not for furthering the argument but for more peaceable closure... First, while I see plentiful examples of what you've illustrated but feel it wouldn't be right to generalize that all folks on the public dole are out to exploit the system as you've written. While I again concede that there are far too many examples like you've said, there are plenty of working poor looking to better themselves but are confronted by a system that seems to have the deck stacked against them... just when they start getting on their feet they are faced with the responsibility of paying back at least a portion of what they collected. Meanwhile, they are stuck in an area that is under represented politically and under protected by the police. Undereducated doesn't mean they aren't aware that they are being screwed by the system. An undercurrent of anger us a good motivator for trying to take advantage any way one can. While I fully agree that exploiting welfare is wrong I can understand why it might take place. Business practices can be predatory as well... food and retail stores that do set up in blighted areas set their prices higher than in more affluent areas as the customer base is less mobile and have little choice but to shop there. As for fast food and nutrition... a less educated population isn't likely to be aware that the crap being served up at the corner McD's is slowly killing them. I can see both sides of the fence but would rather not paint every member of a certain economic strata with the same broad brush. There are plenty of folks on welfare who would give anything to be off. peace
Wow. This thread seems big and full of shit and bigotry and all... My kind of place. Lemme tell you that I have nothing against fat people. JUST AS LONG AS THEY DON'T LOOK AT ME, TOUCH ME OR THINK OF ME. Then I lose it. I throw them a cactus to see if they'll fly all over the place like a goodrich balloon who has a hole... Now, next poster please who'll explain me the ethics of politically correctness shit.
Stinky, are you one of these people who needs a parachute to make a comfortable t-shirt? Do some elephants recognize you as one of their species? Can you provide shadow at the beach for more than 5 people when it's too hot?
I am comfortable with whatever body image you wish to pin on me. If you like it that way- I can be the person that well- intentioned greenpeace people try to rescue by putting back into the ocean...
bah- do a search.... I can't play anymore for now... gotta waddle off to work. I think I'm going to need bifocals because I've been staring at your sig pic too long!
