I suppose the title is rather self-explanatory. What are your favorite charities and why? I've been thinking a lot and when I have more money flowing in than going out, I'm going to donate to my two favorite charities, the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude's. The Ronald McDonald House is my number one favorite. It's a program that sets up centers within hospital districts and gives families a place to stay when they've got a child in the hospital. My brother was born 6 weeks premature when I was 4 years old. The only hospital in the area at the time equipped with a neonatal unit was Northwest Texas in Amarillo, and we lived about 60 miles away, not terribly far, but a long way to travel daily with a 4 year old, as you can imagine. The Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo housed us for a couple of weeks while my brother was in the hospital. It was one of the best times of my life that I can remember, too. They had a crazy fun playroom and we were the only family staying there, so I got a ton of attention. I've always been really interested in pediatric oncology, so that's just why I like St. Jude's so much.
None. I do not and never will donate to charities which are ruled by corruption and which keep a large percentage of the donations to themselves. I'd rather take a bum on the street out for a meal.
we donate to children's hospitals and the ronald mcdonald house as well as the make a wish foundation since tyler's cancer.
i give a lot of stuff to the red cross / united cerebral palsy. the way i figure it, it's a two-pronged benefit. the money goes to the work, the cheap (but well cared for stuff: clothing, toys, beds, etc.) go to people who can't afford new. then there's a toy drive through my daughter's school. last year we gave $500 worth of specifically requested toys to some underpriveledged kids in the area out of kai and joey's obscene christmas toy booty.
Not every bum is a thief For every bum in the street there's a story of physical abuse, mental illness alcoholism or drug abuse, or bankruptcy Hotwater
I give money to Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund and I give lots of time to Habitat for Humanity and the Bea Gaddy Family Center. I help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. EDIT: And I laugh at people who give money to PETA. Suckers.
hey, man. i liked jesus. i think he was pretty cool, even though i just can't seem to do the christian thing. hitler was a dick and told people to kill everyone. jesus never ever did. put that nazi image on st. paul, kay? poor jesus never stood a chance, nice guy, though, from all accounts.
When did this become the Religious (or anti-Christian) forum? First some shopenwhatzitz wants us all to stop breeding in the name of Buddha and now it's time to call all Christians Nazis? Sell it someplace else, asshat.
its my sig because i post alot in the christian fourm. My favorite charity is giving money to saint rebelfight420 because he so genoursly gives clothes to ungrateful crackheads
...while you sit on your fat ass and argue about how evil Christianity is with other fat assed people. RebelFight's idealism is truly beautiful. I may joke around with him about crack meself... but I think that what he's doing is truly beautiful. I am yet to see any other kid his age in the US show the same iniciative and devotion to such a generous cause.
Oh, well that's very different. Sorry. Crackheads should be forced to go naked so that we can easily identify them.
On a similar note...Adolf Hitler started it all for God, right? Sooo...Hitler's genocide is something Jesus might be able to take credit for as well. Just a sidenote. KC, have you ever stayed at the Ronald McDonald House? The one here is really nice, they've renovated it since I was 4, I'm sure, but what a great organization. It's so nice that someone realized that families need a place to stay close to the hospital.
Pavel, you need to get out more. Come spend a weekend with me working at Bea Gaddy's. You'll meet several dozen middle class white kids giving out clothing, blankets, books and serving food that they collected.
I've seen lots of kids do it in groups, with a school or church or whatever... Our little Rebel just seems to really be at it though... he does it by himself, he actually approaches the poor homelss folk himself, there is just something admirable about it. He might not be too humble about it, but I think that it's a worthy accomplishment at 15. I know that I was much less altruistic at that age... but I do come from a radically different background... and there were more homeless people than well... people with homes in Honduras. I'd honestly visit if it wasn't so far away. I'm going to be done with the solitude thing in a month and a bit, and then it will probably be an explosion of traveling.
None of these kids do this with any organization. They're our kind of people. Ragged and dreaded and just wanting to help.
