anything. its general but true.....the mid sixties stuff is great, but i like late 60's even more, but the entire 70's decade was amazing...the 80's was a whole new era for the dead. great stuff with Brent on keys, i prefer least the Vince welnick/Bruce Hornsby years....but they have there own charm, especially 94 and 95, those are my favorite of the 90's......i could get more into detail, but......

    69, 72, 73, 77

Specifically, 2-27-1969 Fillmore West, 06-07-1969 Fillmore West, 09-21-1972 The Spectrum, 06-10-1973 RFK Stadium, 05-08-1977 Barton Hall Cornell University

With Barton Hall being my alltime favorite. The Morning Dew from that show is just divine.

1979-81 was great...a special time. Brent Mydland just joined the band and gave a new vibe and energy to the band. Lots of crazy jams. Garcia sounded fantastic.

1971-72 was awesome, also...lots of new tunes and great performances. The Grateful Dead touring machine was at full speed. To me, right before Keith and Donna joined the band, they were tight -- they sounded outragous. When Keith and Donna joined, they didn't skip a beat -- the sound changed a bit -- Pigpen's last days -- great set lists.

To be honest, I like all eras of the Grateful Dead, especially the 60's and 70's.

I haven't listened to all of the dick's picks albums (even though I have almost all of them) straight through. However, I have grown found of Dick's Picks 8 and 4. Both of them being early '70s shows.

Yeah what the fuck is wrong with this. A "hippie" forum should have more goddamn deadheads.

Edit: But to uh, actually contribute to this thread, It depends on what im in the mood for. Honestly, i love anything with pig the best usually, but of course i love the shit without him too almost as much, so subconsiously as a compromise i find myself listening to alot of 70-72 cause it has the awesome shit with pig, and also alot of the great shit the other guys were doing. So id have to say early 70s are my favorite, cause its a nice mix of their old blues roots, with the new fun sounding jammy hippy vibe stuff that we all love so much too. 73 they really took off, its a shame pig died, they were just so fucking focused and knew (at least had an idea) where they were going.

For example, if i could use one of my favorite medleys, listening to china cat in 73 is just fucking amazing. Its great earlier, but to me, earlier on when they did it, you know how like the one riff starts and everyone one by one comes in, they seemed a bit hestiant as they did it, but by 73 you can just tell they knew exactly where it was going. Of course not exactly cause obviously it was different everytime, but you get what i mean. They seem so much less timid going into it.

God i could fucking talk about this band all day. If only i had someone to do it with.

umm, if you have not noticed this forum is slow as hell. not a lot goes on here. PT has a new thread every 10 seconds it seems. but its also infested with horrid people. give and take i guess. then again this place has the same amount of assholes per capita.
