Although musically challenged myself, I love to listen and am a strong supporter of my local scene. Lets give the local bands in all of our areas some credit. So list your favorite local band here. If possible list the site where people can check out the tunes being played in your area. Madison, WI -- Best Jam Band in Wisco, If you ask me! www.thenorthernpinesband.com -- there is some music in the presskit section.
Locally we're pretty sparse. One band that's pretty good (at least when recorded) is called latchkey. They're on purevolume. I saw them live yesterday at the battle of the bands and they sucked pretty hard though
an absolutley awesome wellington band is the black seeds http://www.theblackseeds.com/ They are kind of a dub band, so good to dance to, I adore them. I think they just got their first album released in the states, Japan and Europe too.
in LA there are a few, Steve Carlson Band is awsome, Cubensis is great I hear, but I've never seen them. However, one of my favorite bands is a philly band, Townhall (www.townhallmusic.com) they're incredible, so worth checking out, I want to go to philly just to see them live :0)
On Long Island, where I live now, there's Stevie Cochran, Andy Aledort, and Harmonica Doug McLean. In Baltimore, where I'll be moving back in a month or so, there's Isle of View. In Salt Lake City, where I've never been, there's UpYerSleeve, whose bassist was in Barbecue Sauce at Penn State in the late 60's. Penn State was also blessed with a band from my hometown of Bethlehem, PA that became at least the equal of Cream—The Munchkins—of which the guitarist, Craig Bolyn, and the bassist, Larry Morris, both graduated in my high school class. Unfortunately, they were always too strung out to give Capitol a recording session, and by the time Polydor recorded Craig, his guitar took a back seat to the moog. For all I know, that single may have been the only thing he recorded before his suicide in the early 90's. It's really a shame. I could almost picture him in place of Steve Vai in the role of Jack Butler in the movie Crossroads. Here's a link I just found to some more about old and new talent in the Lehigh Valley.
Fortune Drive in Bristol, some of them are foreign but they live in Bristol. I saw them once and they were amazing. I remember thinking a couple of songs sounded like Zeppelin, but I was a bit worse for wear www.fortunedrive.com
DJ Williams Projekt is the best band in the VA scene. Kinda a jazz-reggae fusion thing goin on. Dj is one of the most under-rated and lesser known guitar players.
Oh yea, DJ Williams will be at the Haymaker Festival in Va and Smilefest in NC. PLus you can catch him every Tuesday at Cafe Deim in Richmond, VA for free. Shows usually start at 10:30(21 and up)
All our local bands suck. They're all stupid untalented 'hardcore' or 'screamo' bands.. If my neghbor saw this, he'd kill me..he's actually in one..
The local bands in my area are really good....Subtle Irony, Sanitarium, Two Days Too Late, In The Dark, Whenyoumoveitsamovement then again the local pop punk bands are beyond shite
