Of the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) which is your favorite? I would choose smell because it's the most interesting as it's linked directly to the subconscious mind, and can evoke memories long erased from the conscious mind. Smells can also alter moods and are capable of enhancing one's environment. And the diversity of smells we can perceive is also quite amazing, especially when you think about how it's all the work of neurons.
i'm most visualy oriented, as witness: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/j/t/jteall1/jteall1.html yes that's me. though my hearing is nearly as acute as most sightless people. (which is NOT an advantage when not living out in the country) i'd rather loose both legs then any of my senses though, except perhapse hearing. as long as i have to live in cities i sometimes wish i didn't have it at all. =^^= .../\...
Funny how I can take for granted that I am capable of all these things. When I first read the post my answer was sight. There is so much beauty in the world to look at. Threw sight I find joy. Blackie also hit it on the nose for me. If I couldn't see my children or my Husband Life wouldn't have as much meaning. Especially after seeing their beautiful faces and feeling my heart grow fonder everytime they smile.
Blackie I would give you a rep point for that but I gave too many of them out in the past 24 hours. I really appreciate what you said. Thank you for sending me a smile.
The five senses definitely get taken for granted, so cherishing them all equally is very important. However, you need to take into consideration which ones we can, and can not live without. A person can be deaf, a person can be blind, a person can lose their sense of smell, and some people go through life with out any taste, but you can not live with out touch. It has been proven that humans must be touched, and they must touch. (Check out this interview with Tiffany Fields PhD http://www.psychologytoday.com/htdocs/prod/PTOArticle/PTO-20000301-000020.ASP She founded the Miami Touch Research Institute http://www.miami.edu/touch-research/index.html )From birth if a child is not touched they develop a condition called "failure to thrive". They don't grow as quickly, their IQ is lower, and they tend to be a lot more sickly. http://www.anthropogeny.com/Failure%20to%20Thrive.htm Touch is my dearest sense because of that. We are a touch deprived nation. Massage is a very important way to counteract that.
If I had to live my life without hugging my Husband and my children, my life would be impossible to live.
The five senses... I don't know. I guess sight, because if I couldn't see then I couldn't read or write, or at least not in the way I'm used to, and in which case I don't know what I'd do.
i would have to say hearing.. because music is so important to me. as much as the loss of any sense would suck i think hearing is the one i could not bear to live without. i think i could get by living in the dark. taste is pretty cool too..but when im sick and practically cant taste anything i realize that it isnt as important to me as my hearing. ok i would never ever ever want to be without touch but ..i cant even imagine what that would be like so im just gonna leave that one to the wonderers. my favorite thing in the world is listening to good music and making music.. and singing. i dont know what i would do if i could no longer sing .. and hear the harmony of whoever is singing along. not to say i wouldnt still hear it in my head.. but its just not the same. i guess i would make up music in my head and play it on my mind's record player if i had no hearing... i practically do that every day anyway when im not actually singing or listening to music or playing guitar. i have to say hearing is my fave sense though
hearing and touch. hearing the variations in sound and voice can tell you better what mood a person's in than their face. and music! touch is what truly links us with others.
