I love everything about the mint plant. Except for the part that it's not weed of coarse, but thats what weed is for. Lol thats why i diddn't put in marijuana in the poll cause than it'd be obvious which spice would win
mint is actually my SECOND favorite. Thyme, which is my favorite, does not appear, as i type this, on the list. oregino is crap. it's the anti-spice that makes everything taste crappily bland. which is why campells loads up their soups they make with rotten tomatoes with it. celantro, also missing from that list, on the other hand, is far more interesing. terragon and saffron are also spices i use more often then just about anything other then mint or rosemarry on that list. well ok, i can't afford to use that MUCH saffron, but i do, on occasion use it. cinnimon and nutmeg i do use, but again seldom. cinnimon in coffee when grinding it to prevent coffee grease buildup from make the fresh grindings stick to the inside of the grinder, and also add a nice touch to the flavor. nutmeg for custards and nogs and not much else. another spice you didn't mention, or flavoring if you will, which has received a certain amound of comment of late, is wasabi. anise and ginger i can't recall ever using and sage i use very seldom, almost never. PICKLED ginger goes good with sushi, but ginger as a spice IN anything, i usually can't stand. capsicum/peppercorns and cyane are both conspicuous by their abscence. who doesn't at least occasionally use black pepper? small amounts of finely chopped cellery and onion, while not litterally themselves spices as such, can be used as such, as i also often do, along with the squeezins of a fresh picked lemon. or the frozen squeezins from lemons i pick each year and juce so i can have them to use in my cooking all year long. so this list to me, seems a little whacked. =^^= .../\...
Well its only 10 options, these seemed like the most basic spices i could think of (Without getting too basic with salt and pepper). I actually wrote down like a list of 20 different spices or so, and i swear to god the last spice i eliminated off my list was Thyme. I think i eliminated it for either sage or Anise. At least i got your second favorite spice D
anise (or "aniseed") is the chief flavour in many absinthes. The cheif ingredient is wormwood, yes - but, anise gives it its flavour, hence why it's my favourite!
well, you leave out a LOT, and include some herbs that aren't what i think of when i think of "spice" but then again these polls can only include so much.... i'd say my favorites which seem to qualify as much as anything else in your poll are cumin and garlic....cilantro is great as well.
