probably been done before at some point....
discount all along the watchtower cos its gots dylans inspired lyrics. and would probably be too many peoples favourite

my two are the acoustic blues midnight lightning and house burning down from electric ladyland, a blues fire guitar part

i dig "freedom", and also really groove on "don't accuse me"....."love, love" with curtis knight is very happening, and of course "machine gun" is always a gas!

...."message of love" has got its groove factor on high, baby!

all of Jimi's blueswork, particularly the acoustic stuff, is extremely tasty! mmmm "catfish blues"! [IMG]

God, how can I pick just one? So many great tracks, both studio and live, come to mind. But if I had to pick just one, it'd be Here He Comes (Lover Man), from the South Saturn Delta compilation CD.
Other songs from that CD which I'd recommend is the demo version of Little Wing, Message To Love, Pali Gap, and as themysterytramp said, Midnight Lightning.

The acoustic version of Hear My Train a-Comin' is also an absolute necessity to hear.
*Edit to say: it can be found in his Blues CD.

Voodoo Chile (the long one; not the slight return). This is great! Steve Winwood on the organ.

The seven minute instrumental version of Bold as Love that can be found on the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" four disc box set of "rarities" (and I'm sure on plenty of other compilations as well). It's probably the most beautiful music I've ever heard.

The studio version of Bold as Love isn't bad, either!

Others would be Manic Depression, Third Stone from the Sun, Machine Gun, Johnny B. Goode (live)

you are like the only other person that i have encountered that has EVER heard of that song with curtis!!! I have the whole session with curtis and jimi....the"summer of love sessions"--everyone has gotta check it out!

but there is no way that i can choose just one song.....i refuse to choose one song!!
