I need to get over that shit. Sitting around here with dental insurance and not getting cavities filled because the dentist terrifies me. Delaying going to the doctor about an issue that I absolutely know 100% I need to go to the doc. for and will need surgery for. And that's another thing... fear of surgery and anesthesia... I really need to tell myself to get over fear and just do things.

Not as easy to do if you are truly nervous of going. Can you have someone go with you to the appointments as it might help. Sometimes it is that you do not have a comfort level with an individual and possibly changing your care provider might help. Make those appointments.
Yeah.. not easy. I have true anxiety about doctors when I know something is wrong and get into this trying to fix things with natural, at home cures... which works all good and fine, until it actually doesn't. (If that makes sense). But yeah I try to fix things myself at the same time hoping it will just go away. The funniest thing about this all is once I actually go to the doctor its never as bad as I think... and the dentist... I have very sensitive teeth. Need novacaine to get them cleaned and had a bad experience with a particular dentist filling a cavity before but I think it's again just something I'll have to just do and feel better afterwards.
Think of it this way, if you don't get those cavities filled you will end up getting root canals. Which from what I hear is a lot worse.
I get nervous when I go see a doctor, even if it's just for a script. I'm only guessing it's because about six months ago I went to see one of my "second option" doctors because my usual one was unavailable, and (I'm assuming) because they were swamped with patients, when they called my name, the nurse sent me to a different room to wait again. I've always had a very vivid imagination (nightmare about a doctor gassing a room with my sister and I in it) and issues with anxiety in the past so my heart started to race. I was then called to see this doctor, and for whatever reason he decides to check my blood pressure. Because I was already just calming down from wondering why they'd call for me only to be sent to another room (sounds irrational), my heart rate speeds up because along with the beeping sound the machine makes, that seemed to make it worse. Sooo this doctor starts asking me questions like do I take drugs etc, which I denied, because I don't. He was still acting suspicious even after I explained my anxiety, and that the machine had made me nervous. I agreed to let the nurse take a blood sample just to prove it. The next time I went in he told me the sample was fine. I mentally told him to suck it, and so now when I do need to go back, I make sure I'm not stuck with him. I'll wait for my usual doctor if need be. Now when I do go to see my doctor, and they ask to take my blood pressure I request they mute the beeping sound the thing makes. I'm fine with the dentist because I've seen the same one since I was a kid so the guys pretty much seen my siblings and I grow up.
Why ? I always worry about getting the wrong diagnosis and wasting a lot of money without getting any proper treatment.
Why? Because the majority of general practicing doctors are little more than lackeys for the pharmaceutical industry. What do doctors really do for people, other than put them on medicine, most of which is harmful and unnecessary (especially cholesterol medicine). Most doctors don't have a clue about proper health and nutrition, and neither does the general public for that matter, which might explain why so many people see doctors as gods, and are content to let them make important decisions when it comes to their well-being. To me, most doctors are as despicable as politicians. I have little respect for them, unless they have a true knowledge about proper health and nutrition, and are open to a holistic approach to health. Unfortunately, this does not apply to most doctors, who are good for little more than writing prescriptions and making the pharmaceutical companies (which kill tens of thousands of people every year) richer. In fact, many of them are so arrogant that they are completely closed-minded when it comes to what I consider to be truly healthy lifestyles. They are quick to poo-poo vitamins, but take this prescription for Lipitor, which actually weakens a person's cardiovascular system and poisons their liver. My opinion is that doctors do not make already unhealthy people healthy, but actually sicker. People who take care of themselves have little to no need for a doctor. Those that do need a doctor would be better off simply taking control of their lives by having some personal responsibility and eating healthy. Even if I thought that government-run healthcare was about helping people (in reality it's about controlling them and making them sicker), I would still be opposed to it, because I don't feel that people with personal responsibility should have to pay for people with unhealthy habits, who shove garbage down their throats all the time and then look for someone else to flip the bill once they get sick because of their own poor choices. That's right, I say fuck government-socialist-state-universal-whateveryoucallit health/Obamacare. I am totally opposed to it. To-ta-lee!!!!
I have the same anxiety. I've had dental insurance for two years and a cavity that needs to be filled and I can't work up the courage to go. When I do go I'm going to try sedative dentistry. I've also been reading about ways to remineralize your teeth and avoid drilling out cavities all together. I have a wicked sinus infection and I'm about to go boil some ginger and inhale the shit out of it. I am all about home remedies and avoiding doctors.
I had my teeth pulled with no anesthesia (only laughing gas...which made me nauseated, not laughing) when I was 7. HATE the dentist, but I'm actually going in a few weeks because I need 7 fillings, which I found out after going back for the first time in 4 years. But, my dentist is really nice and he specializes in sedation dentistry. (YAY FENTANYL!!!) And my dad's footing the bill. SCHWING!! Pressed--doctors typically do prescribe vitamins and minerals, especially in the hospital. Maybe not to as many people as they should, but I give out plenty of vitamins and minerals. I don't agree of all that doctors do with their patients, but in the end, it's the patient's choice. I work at a small-town hospital in the South with very small-town folk...you think they're all gonna become vegan when they find out they have high cholesterol? HA!! Even if doctor's were honest and counseled their patients more on proper nutrition, the average american isn't going to listen. And if the doctor won't give them a quick fix they'll just go to another one. Maybe I'm jaded from working in BFE, but most people don't give a shit about their health. I blame them, not the doctors. You can't fix stupid. I'm VERY picky when it comes to my own docs. I do extensive research on their online reviews, and for the most part stick with female docs. I HATE my liver doctors, because I have literally no choice but to see this one particular group unless I want to drive 3 hours for my appointments in the next city over. They're cold, judgemental, and they all have Aspergers syndrome (I have a theory that 15% of doctors--namely specialists--have Aspergers. No that there's anything wrong with having Aspergers, but if you're so grossly lacking in social skills please go into radiology, for the love of god). I'm mixed on alternative medicine. It definitely has it's place--especially with chronic illness; Western medicine sucks at chronic illness. But herbs are all so weak compared to the hard-core, badass shit western medicine produces...it's kinda boring. Go acute or go home!
Fair enough. But the vitamins they prescribe in the hospitals are often the synthetic ones, which can actually do more harm than good. For instance, I work in a nursing home, and I know a lot of the residents are prescribed 50,000 units of vitamin D weekly. But it's vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol), which is the synthetic version, which has shown to actually have many negative effects, and it isn't absorbed nearly as good as D3 (Cholecalciferol), the natural form, which is also produced by the body from exposure to sunlight. And as far as cholesterol, I don't think it takes abstaining from animal products to normalize one's cholesterol, since much evidence suggests that has little to do with a person's cholesterol. Cholesterol levels have more to do with a person's overall health and their consumption of grains (especially processed and refined) and sugars. Most of the cholesterol in a person's blood comes from their own liver. I actually think meat is very healthy, and part of a healthy diet, granted it is organic and sourced from grass-fed cows and free-range chickens/turkeys which are not injected with hormones and antibiotics. But I digress, and point taken.
I agree with this to a certain point. I love herbal medicine but with serious illness herbal medicine isn't going to do the trick. However, for run of the mill illnesses like a sinus infection (for which antibiotics are seriously overprescribed) there is a lot of value in herbal medicine. Garlic has amazing anti viral properties. I can usually wipe a cold or sinus infection out in 3 days just by eating my recipe for chicken soup (loaded with garlic and black pepper), eating raw ginger, and taking garlic pills. Neti pots are pretty awesome too. I think people are too quick to run to the doctor for minor illnesses when home remedies can be just as effective. I do agree that a huge part of the problem lies with the patients and not the doctor. I know people that demand antibiotics even when the doctor tells them its a viral infection.
Herbs are better for maintaining overall health vs. treating a condition, but then again it depends on the herb. But a lot of people also fail to realize that the herbs one buys over-the-counter at the grocery store are not exactly the highest quality or potency. To find a really good brand you need to go to a natural food or health food store.
I agree completely. I go to the dr basically only for life and death situations, but I keep insurance because my job is dangerous. My premiums doubled this year, and from what I am hearing they are going to double again next year. That is complete fucking bullshit. I'm considering paying the "tax" (fine) because I'm sick of paying hundreds of dollars per month for something I don't use. I hope obama gets impeached and this fucking joke of legislation gets repealed.
Four out of ten Americans don't even know Obamacare is now the law. Shows what a good job the media is doing of keeping people "informed." http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog...4-10-americans-dont-know-obamacare-still-law/
