Once again the Feds are threatening to take action against Californians who violate Federal laws on marijuana. Just like when medical marijuana was legalized by Prop 215, Clinton's administration made the same threat, and we can see how ineffective that was in stopping medical cannabis.

If Tom Ammiano's new Bill gets passed after Prop19, it orders the state to not comply with Federal actions against those who obey the new state law.

They only want independence of states (state rights) and for that matter freedom, only when it suits their little circle jerk. Whafu happened to Obama telling the feds to cease and desist?

At this rate the question of legalization will become eclipsed by concerns with states rights. It's a great way of giving cold feet to other states considering legalization. It's also an opportune way to keep us (general population) divided as it will tend to isolate those vocally in favor of legalization as the treasonous thieves and racketeers who occupy both houses of congress as corporate marionettes make public mincemeat of them in a perverse brand of propagandist voodoo too often mislabeled as justice.

This is good. It means the government feels that their power is being threatened. Once the people see that the government's threats mean nothing beyond being threats, this is potentially a gateway to a better, more liberal world, and maybe, one day, what we, as educated citizens, choose to put inside of our bodies, won't be a crime.

    My 2 cents.

Lol @ Duck's post... you forgot to add "staged and meaningless" between "enough" and "wars"...

And Serenity, I whole heartedly agree with you, it seems like it is all happening so fast, I was quite satisfied with it being medicinally legal, but legal statewide is even better I guess. I am just wondering how it is going to effect the price of it. I predict it is going to JUMP in price for the first 2 years or so, (maybe to $25.00 a gram) and then drop down to $10-15 a pack of prolly 12 or so joints, but you cant really guess what big tobacco is going to do. It's gunna suck when we start getting weed with shit to make it burn faster in it...

Not exactly. Federal laws have always taken precedence over state laws. That's how the constitution was written and it was in response to the ineffectiveness and squabbling that came about under the previous system.

The issue of so-called "state's rights" is nothing new. Directly or indirectly, we fought a Civil War over it. And if the Southern states had their way with their "rights", we'd still have "white only" drinking fountains.

However you may feel about legalized pot, good luck defying Federal laws.

I love folks who think the civil war was just about slavery

Honestly, Abe was for repatriation, as were almost all anti slavery people in the 19th century! Lincoln went to war over it because he opposed states rights under the constitution, it was a financial thing then and its a financial thing now.

If it were really about freedom for all men equally everyone darker than George Takei would have been sent back to africa regardless of whether they were born there or here. Or if they spoke english, french or swahili - the anti slavery movement was all in favor of sending them back. Just goes to show how being a good person can change depending on how someone views things over the course of time.

This whole thing about threatening crackdown is pure political bullshit, midterm election smoke up your ass! Its obvious from his previous orders that Obama doesnt want to get involved in the marijuana debate - but i think the margin of dems to repubs in the house and senate has forced him to make this statement. Probably at the behest of the democrat leadership, as its pretty much the opposite of everything else I have seen him say on the subject.

Really? What about the folks who smugly make pronouncements about something other folks said that is not what the other folks said at all? Don't you just love those, too?

Perhaps you ought to read again what I said and then get off your high horse.

Definitely (the Canadian province of) British Columbia would oppose this proposition. Legal cultivation of marijuana in California would cut off our exports to the United States and no doubt encourage import of this vicious drug into Canada where it will lure our daughters into mindless promiscuity, as well as cut sales of homegrown product.

Stop Proposition 19! Save our sons and our daughters from drug degeneracy! Protect Canada's balance of payments!

Because drug laws are not based on harm, they are based on recognized medical efficacy and/or addiction potential. At the time the current drug scheduling was conceived, 1970, marijuana was not viewed to posses any medical use. The reason the drug laws are written or "scheduled" in that manner is because the blatant outlawing of any substance is actually a violation of the Constitution. The roots of modern drug laws dates back to the Pure Food and Drug act of 1906, and the formation of the FDA. The FDA holds sway over drug laws more than any other government institution.

The AMA has called for a re-scheduling of marijuana in light of the overwhelming evidence that it has medical efficacy.

On the plus side, there's a crying need for more federal narcs in California. Look at the bright side! 10,000 job openings at DEA for illiterate rednecks who like to jail goddam hippies! You won't even hafta hang out at the local bar, you can go around and bust state licenced (for marijuana) premises. Plus you get to wear a fancy uniform with a shoulder patch and drive a souped up unmarked DEA cruiser while defending your daughters and white civilization. The laid off state narcs can always get on the fed gravy train.

Feds Threaten Crackdown if Prop 19 Passes and California Legalizes Cannabis

Oh Boy, That really sounds like an implosion waiting to happen! I mean The Feds implode. This should be real fun.

Just imagine all of the dying cancer patients, that the brilliant Feds lock up, who die from there cancer before their trial. Talk about National press. Ultra negative press. That should generate some true upper echelon firing at the DEA. Lead story: "Suffering Cancer Patients Die in Prison because of the DEA Leaders" great headlines for all of the US citizens to see. Especially the majority of the populous vote. i.e. The Power in the Country.

    This should be fun.
