Happiness, in particular is it a feeling or a state of mind. Say a man is unhappy but has a good sense of humor…when he laugh is he happy?

Can one moment make u happy if it could wouldn’t it mean that we live in the moment the present time many say that we do or at least that’s what spiritual leaders say right. But if we would consider average Joe does he live in the moment probably not I know I don’t.

What do u need to live from one moment to another maybe something like blank consciousness no ego no needs , basically if we had no desires no physical body then we would have a happy state of mind ?

But then again feelings of the body makes us happy don’t it yet it seems so temporal.
Ok so what is a feeling from my point of view it’s a chemical reaction something that just clicks sort a speak within our biology its something that does not linger in our normal state. There for when a feeling is lingering to long a tolerance quickly immerges and we feel indifferent to it. Yet with a state of mind the longer the environment that produced this state of mind prevails the stronger the state will be.

The thing is the environment that a mind finds its self in is the mind itself it’s a continuous reflection so do we actually react to the present moment that the outside world presents to us. What I mean no single situation be it negative or positive is bigger then us we are a product of many interconnected situations so one moment cannot affect us we can only react to it physically emotionally. And here it is the limitation our emotions are strongly governed by the experiences that are associated with it, it’s a wall in a form of continues bombardment of similar situations in other words the patterns that lead to maturate of the mind.

I suppose it’s all to do with our unconsciousness. One podcast said about all of this something like… the way to higher consciousness is to abolish the wall which separates our subconscious and conscious minds. But would this lead to continues happiness do we all strive for that, to be completely attached and unattached and the same time in turn having the ability to be at peace with our emotions and physical self?

? hey , why am i suddenly happy - because lately i've suffered the most miserable emptiness . yet , that emptiness has not been filled . i'm only vaguely aware of what change just happened in a twinkle ... though i'd been expecting the trouble would pass eventually .

Happiness occurs when nothing is withheld.

Reality in a nutshell is a universe + consciousness that’s it one could not exist without the other in a way that we consider reality to be and there for be real as we see are self to be. These two work in balance these two resemble one another. Sadness I believe manifest when the world just does not a line with urs or my picture of it somehow being sad about it makes me feel better u know. I don’t know falling out of balance may make one feel empty not relevant. I mean take a jungle man and place him in a city all the knowledge of the world within him would be meaningless, this could apply to smaller pieces of the picture ideas, opinions… but feeling sad means that this has been recognized and there for we are coming to terms with it and the balance of the two pictures is being processed and restored. Only by reflecting and exercising over and over in our minds the changes we can correct our view to match up and find peace again.

Of course in contrast after feeling at war with oneself finding peace may make one happy. But the world unavoidably will change again and we will be stuck once more with a miss match. I guess the trick is to have an abstract picture in minds eye so it can be recognized in many way as moment to moment requires it to be. Extreme believes that are set in stone makes us depressed, with them we become stubborn there for when the flow of the world changes we try to swim against the current and then we drown…

As far as feelings go man that’s a difficult one how do feelings and thoughts differ, can u draw a distinct line between the two?

Take euphoria why we differ it from happiness could it be that for euphoria to acure a person’s state of mind has to be attuned for happiness and as it happens the body obliges a chemical high = euphoria

Does peacefulness follow the same line… hmm maybe no I think when it comes to peace its more to do with exemption of any emotion in a same level headed way rather then an overloud of one.

a thought can be metaphorical - like a lonesome and abstract thought of sex may only be a desire for tea time happiness and world peace . the actual form of the thought may be very inexact yet it has an essence . should a confusion of thought and feeling actually rise to some literal action , then it may be well to draw a distinct line and i'd think this requires trusting the sub-mind to supply a completeness of sensibility .

of that wall twixt the social mind and the sub-mind ? it'd be stupid to abolish it for sake of higher conciousness . perhaps in trying something could be learned , but one can witness inane , even sorrowful , casualities among the extreme people who attempt it literally .

Happiness is tricky. One can be happy from moment to moment if you really want to look at it from a surface level... But OP said that the average joe does not live in the moment? I disagree, I believe the average joe probably lives much more in the moment then most "spiritual leaders" would preach, at least in the sense that the average joe exists inside the moment as opposed to always analyzing his moments. How much do you think about every moment you experience? Would thinking about each moment, and appreciating it, make it special? Yes, if one truly lived that way, but that seems more like a contentedness with existence rather then actually being happy. It seems to me kind of unhealthy to be always longing and searching and working towards being constantly happy..

Happiness is not a matter of circumstance but a matter of the heart. The measure you give is the measure you receive.

Since happiness is not a matter of circumstance, it is beyond what can be taught. However we can remove the barriers we build against it.

If I don't complain, I find I have fewer complaints.

U see I think that most of our actions and emotions are almost automatic for eg I do not need to think about what is my name when somebody calls it out I react without thinking my subconscious does it for me. Of course the consciousness job is to understand the sound and appropriate response to it.

And in this sense I do think of the surface sort a speak consciousness as the social interpreter for the subC. Its seems like a filter that shapes the original though to an ordinary usual one, not to say this is bad for this is the only way to communicate.

Our hole life is conscious creation not only our personal but others two, consciousness is very much a shared phenomena. Trouble is that we may start to believe that the only meaning happiness these sorta things should be logical for all to understand seens that’s the kind we have encountered in the past from other ppl. So we may start to think that say money would make me happy contend with life.

Because of this chared self normalization acures in big groups similar characteristics emerge. And we begin to identifier are self with society based on this we hind the things that do not comply and highlight the ones that do which enforces the normal image of a person in general.

Our true self only comes out at night when we sleep hidden from others for they would not understand we figure after all everyone is normal. And this is what happens physical world overpowers us we feel the need to think the way others what us to. We have to filter everything what we say and do but it’s a two way street this filter tends to ignore all the abnormalities of other ppl the world that are coming in. But we miss so much the diversity the flexibility of the subC largely is unrecognized by us in turn the world seems inflexible…

Sure if we do abolish the filter we may fall in to chaos unfamiliar reality and start to act up according to others. Insanity am I the only one who wishes to experience it?
Is it forfeit I guess would be a better question who knows…

happiness follows no objective criteria. all there is, is a feeling. we are told that the feeling is happiness when it is appropriate for those around us to say it is. therefore, we learn our happiness as an abstracted emotional response to appropriate stimuli.
