Wooot! First public show tonight, and it was a paid gig, as well! Got hired to do a wedding reception. Poi, staff, fire breathing and fire pots...Went really well, better than we'd planned. Got a great reaction from the crowd...No pics from tonight, but I have a few from our last practice we lit up for...

Nice plumes! Great to hear you're getting gigs and stuff!

A few questions, as I've yet to charge for my own fire. How much did you charge for the gig? Do you guys have performers insurance. If so, was it really pricey? Do you perform with a designated safety guy somewhere off to the side?

We had a safety, but he turned out to be really flakey(missed two shows without notice, and without cause) so for now, we're taking turns, as in whoever is off stage watches the people on stage, in rotation. We are hoping to have a new full time fire safety by our next performance.
We actually took a very low fee for this show, because we knew it would get us a lot of exposure within the town. We only charged 80 bucks for 10 minutes of performance. Normally, we're thinking about $200 for a 10-15 minute show, because of risk, fuel costs, materials used, insurance, etc. My wife and I own a bellydance troupe, and we based the rate of our fire show off of what we charge for belly dance performance, adding in the above factors.
Right now, we have our regular poicy for the studio, which covers any damage to property or injury to bystanders, but not ourselves. We are planning to get insurance through Clowns of the US, as they come highly recommended. As yet, they have not answered our emails, and we also need to build up funds for the insurance. Right now, any money we make is going into the general supplies fund, rather than to any of our performers. We hope to have that [policy in place by the end of next month.
