Today I ate no meat and no meat products for the first time ever. It felt great! All day I ate:
    Breakfast-Fruit Corner yoghurt
Lunch-Macaroni cheese with peas and carrots (Was a bit cold, but i wasn't eating the meat options)
Snacks-Vegan rasperry jellies (cost me a lot of money, but they were a celebrationary treat), Galaxy chocolate bar, Unpasteurised orange and rasperry juice.
Dinner-Vegetable lasagne and a cherry pancake thingy.

It was such a day of freedom. Unfortunately I'm going to have to eat meat for a wee while until my Mum takes the hint taht I don't like eating meat any more. We're having a vegetarian week next week, but I plan to stay vegetarian!

Here's the thing, eating meat is not going to help your mom understand. And if you are going veggie for moral reasons as opposed to dietary, you shouldn't go back to eating it. Unless your cabinets, refrigerator, and freezer are all COMPLETELY empty, you can find yourself something to make.

    Good luck either way though.

Well done nynysuts! You can do it :)

Weening yourself off slowly is a good idea if you eat lots of meat! Thats what I done, first of all i managed a whole weekend without meat, then messed up, then managed a whole week then messed upp then eventually managed two whole months! Now Im back in a messed up time, but next time Im going to have to beat my two month record :D

Well, it looks like I won't be eating meat now! I think my Mum is finally persuaded! She gave me veggie fingers for dinner today!

I really hope so, I'm doing it for ethical reasons, under a slight pretence that I've gone off meat. I don't miss it though! It's going to be hard at school, literally they only have cheese panninis, bean burgers with chilli sauce and expensive noodles, bah.

    Spiritual reasons here.

You'll need to become a label reader now. Lots of foods have animal extracts in them.

My state of health has been worth every piece of meat I've ever turned away.

I'm a pro label reader, I discovered my favourite yoghurts contain gelatline, but the sacrifice is well worth it.

    Think about it.

But don't go overboard. Otherwise, you become like Howard Hughes. Afraid to leave the house. Find your comfort level first, and then work from there as the years move forward.

It's been 3 weeks today! Admittedly I fell off the 'wagon' once, we had chinese and my mum 'forgot' I was vegetarian. To please her I ate one chicken ball. It tasted exactly like soap. But other than that, no slip ups, I feel great!

I'm so pleased to see another join the crew.

    Moral reasons here.

But as the journey goes on, for about the 1st 6 months or so you will feel cravings of your favorite meat. But after that, I'm glad to say you'll be alright and well on your way to becoming a pro-Vegetarian!

Good luck nyn, and as Xexon said, become a label reader. I see that you are already a pro-label reader, you're lucky. I learned the tough way that animal products are indeed deceiving.

So it's now been about 2 1/2 months and I am sure it is the best decsion I ever made! I know absolutely loove vegetables, like I'll eat them over chocolate. I went away on a course and ate a plate of vegetables at every meal tereabouts. In fact such are my vegetable cravings that I worried my friend into thinking I was preganant, but hey.

I have only really had a couple of meat cravings, this morning I opened the fridge and saw a sausage roll, which was tempting but I had veggie jelly instead. Yeah, I do eat healthily, but only when we have food in the house.

Nice one! Didn't realise you'd been veggie since January. Long time one here, 12 years (6 years no fish/gelatin/rennet , parents spent a long time not giving me the whole truth, still a bit pissed about that) It's a tricky one, not sure how my parents are gonna react when I tell them I'm gonna go vegan, but meh. Keep up the good work!

12 years, blimey! Took me that long to muster up the courage! I'm in it for the longterm, don't know if I could cope with veganism but I'd give it a shot!

Same on the veganism. I'm gonna give it a shot though. It's well hard staring at your plate and having to sorta cross off about half of it.

Yeah, I'd miss all the pastry based stuff too. And I really dislike the taste of soy milk too.

Have you tried rice milk? It's nice and sweet. I have to have chocolate soy milk usually, which atstes okish. There's always that other milk substitute, forgotten what it is though. I'd so miss pastry too! And cakes.

Eugh, sweet milk. That's what puts me off Yakult. Yeah cakes'd be hard to manage without milk/eggs (or at least not as nice). Best situation would be to have your own cow/chickens, that way you can make sure they have good welfare and such. So you can be guilt free. Gonna have to add a small number of liberated animals to my fantasy island drug haven now then :)
