Ive been A very heavy weed smoker for a few years now and many of my friends have told me about acid trips and they seem like something I want to experience. My friend and I are both first timers and we're going 2 hits each, the thing is... 1) Where should we go? (were thinking about going into the woods but I dont know if that will be good/bad). 2) What are some things to avoid? 3) Should I stay out of my house? 4) Is a trip anything like being drunk? (can you forget parts or blackout) ~Thanks
the woods is a great idea. nature is absolutely beautiful on acid, i have a very strong connection to nature now even when not tripping. truly amazing. avoid being around too many people for your first time tripping. It can be confusing and generally a very bad experience even to people who have taken a lot of acid. I suggest staying out of your house. i think you should allow yourself to walk around and explore. too many people try to set boundaries on where they go so that the dont have a "bad trip" but this can also cause a bad trip by feeling closed in. A trip is nothing like being drunk. You may not remember everything but you willl find that when you are thinking about the trip or talking to the people you where tripping with bits and pieces will jump back into your memory. In my experience at least i have never "forgotten" anything significant in the trip ie. where i was; who i was with; or what was said and done. visuals dont really stay in my mind so much but i find them less important as i did when i first started taking acid. the experience as a whole is more significant.
Well, I just heard a story from my friend how he ended up completly naked in the street and got taken to the hospital. Thats what im mostly worried about, I dont want to do something REALLY stupid like that. I figure that if im walking around and enjoying whats around me nothing bad should happen.
yeah shit like that rarely happens. i think a lot of it comes down to people just taking acid as an excuse to do what ever they want.
1)Where should we go? (were thinking about going into the woods but I dont know if that will be good/bad). Anywhere where people aren't in abundunce, this means towns, open streets and roads. Stay away from the public in nature and you'll be set. 2) What are some things to avoid? Hahaha, cops, volcanos, meteors, running out of water, just don't be an idiot 3) Should I stay out of my house? Usually I'll trip outside, but you could trip in your house.... won't be as profound. When your tripping, you might aswell test your newfound skills on trees and clouds. 4) Is a trip anything like being drunk? (can you forget parts or blackout) A mushroom trip yes, mushrooms are a toxin making you feel drunk but with your head firmly on your shoulders. Acid, no, on high doses you can speed through your trip and not remember what you were doing. Please, don't compare or think about comparing such a pointless drug to the hybrid medicine LSD.
I see a lot of reports about people smoking weed for a long time then thinking they are 'ready' for psychs. Psychedelic inebriation acts heavily on how you perceive the outside World; as well as issues in your conciousness. I know (not on forums) a lot of people who found that acid woke them up to certain realities of smoking weed; issues that made them cut right down and issues I'm not really going to go into; but they found weed clouded their judgement on issues in life, some thought weed was holding them back; keeping the mindset from progressing in the stoney routine they chose to place themselves in, the ignorance to the World itself, and the lack of initiative and consistent logical insight they had as a result. Basically, I don't like seeing people commenting they've smoked a lot of weed and think they are ready for acid or mushrooms, possibly and probably using the fact they've smoked a lot of green as a benchmark on their psychedelic experience.. because weed and tryptamines/synthetic hallucinogenics are at the complete opposite sides of the scale and are of complete irrelevance and insignificance to each other in terms of experience, effect and overall duration. 1. You should stay inside for your first time. It's always good to get to know a substance and how it effects you before 'going out to play' with it. 2. Avoid noisy machinery, sirens and the law. 3. I strongly wouldn't advise being at home at any point of the acid trip (that is - if your parents are completely unaware that you've taken it). 4. If you're expecting drunk, drink alcohol. THIS, my friend, is a whole new kettle of fish.. If anything, I believe the person most suitable and ready for lsd is the person that doesn't smoke a lot of weed in the years before tripping for the first time; a person that does have a solid notion of 'what's what' in both the World and their mind. This, in my belief, is where the lsd will be used as a tool and used wisely and maturely.
i like staying at home tripping personally. thats not to say i dont enjoy discovering the wonders of nature. as for if you should stay home, it depends on how comfortable you are with the people you live with knowing you just ate a bunch of acid because if you are around them they will probably be able to figure it out.
I am one of these people though I didn't smoke much before taking acid, maybe once a week for the few months before my first trip. A few months after that I was an every day stoner. Taking acid during that period though has slowly helped me quit. Although i will still smoke weed on a trip to calm me down and help sleep afterward. Personally these days i consider weed to be the worst influence ive had in my life.
Some people sail through their stoner days. Others have hell when it comes to going a few days without a spliff. Guess it's all based on what you feel you have, like and appreciate in life and how much you value things/people outside of weed.
I was upset to see another "first time" post (there are hundreds, mostly with the exact same questions and responses), but, zonked, you ask some pretty good questions. First of all, what is your house like? Do you live by yourself? Parents? Roomies? Is it clean? How do you typically feel when you're at home (safe, anxious, trapped, stimulated, secure)? As for weed being good preparation for LSD, I find that there are two loose groups of people when it comes to the effects of weed. The first group experiences weed as a mild drug with warm feelings, laughter, munchies. Perhaps occasionally the effects will be a little overpowering, but for the most part, the experience is mild and calming. Then there is the second group who experiences more of the psychedelic effects of weed. These people find weed to be an extremely powerful experience. All of their senses become much more alive. Their sense of self becomes confused or non-existent. There is dissociation between the mind and body. Occasionally, these people have panic attacks on high doses of weed. Often these people are rendered completely incapable of "doing" anything (especially social stuff) while under the influence of weed because they are so deep in their own heads. If you identify more with the former group, your weed experience probably won't mean anything once you start tripping. However, if you identify more with the latter group, you probably won't be too far out of your league. As for tripping being something like serious alcohol intoxication, I would say that there actually are some parallels, but only in certain circumstances. People react to both drinking and LSD very differently, depending on personality, expectations, set and setting, etc. Sometimes people do "black out" on LSD, but only if they let their minds run away from them (you will probably see what I'm talking about when you start tripping). Similarly, people usually black out on alcohol when they seek out a black out experience and allow their minds to drift into that primal, black out state. Sometimes people become very uninhibited on LSD either due to a feeling of freedom or due to a freak out. Sometimes people become very reserved and inhibited either due to a profound fascination with the "now" and the immediate surroundings or due to a low/moderate level of anxiety. In some sense, the loss of a sense of self that can occur during LSD could be compared to the loss of self that occurs when being quite drunk, but the two effects are certainly not identical, and most of the other effects, especially the physical effects, are very different (the physical effects on your senses, coordination, etc. are probably close to opposite). Also, as I mentioned, especially with alcohol this total loss of self is somewhat avoidable up to a point if you make a conscious effort to remember "yourself," but once you reach a certain dose of LSD or a certain level of alcohol, "you" are just done. As for the guy who ended up naked in the road, that happened for one of three reasons: 1. as someone already mentioned being a possibility, he just took LSD because he wanted to freak out and "act crazy," a very likely scenario, kind of like how people will have one beer and start spilling their guts to strangers because they feel that it is acceptable 2. he became very scared (perhaps in combination with physically overheated) and overreacted or 3. he became very happy and overreacted. Now, unless you're a tool, you don't have to worry about the first one. Becoming overly elated or frightened is almost always a possibility (of course this doesn't always or even often result in such extreme behavior), but assuming you are with a good, supportive friend, you generally feel good and stable about yourself, your life in general, and your decision to dose, you shouldn't have much trouble keeping one foot on the ground. Surround yourself with familiar things - have familiar music handy, a familiar food nearby, perhaps pictures of people you love or an inspirational book. These things will enhance your trip when it's good and pick it up when it's bad (and be prepared to have ups and downs - it most likely won't be all good or all bad... if things get scary for a second, don't freak out and assume you're going to have a "bad trip" - most of my trips have included moments of discomfort followed by moments of even greater joy). I can't stress enough the key of feeling secure. Happy isn't even the right word. Plenty of people are unhappy with their lives and have great trips because they are mentally secure with themselves and are general optimistic people. If you have mental health issues, fear that you are going crazy in general or fear that you will go crazy when you dose, these could be potential problems. Fear is the only potential enemy on your trip, and if you are in touch with your fear and do not fear the fear itself, you have nothing to worry about. I drank a ton of coffee this morning and I'm amped about football today and I've totally geeked out here. Post more questions, and be sure to comment about what your home is like - if your home is a generally happy, good place, I would start there and only venture outside once you have gotten used to it or once you're coming down. If your home is uncomfortable, gross, and/or stifling, I would start outside and plan to stay outside no matter what, provided you can find an isolated place where you won't get paranoid about other people.
I am a gorilla. When I dose today I will be in the woods sitting on a rock or hanging from a tree in a secluded and lovely place in the hills. Last night I was on a date and she took pictures of me on a rock. I love nature. Yea I have a question though, say I dose today off two, seeing as I am a first timer, how long should I wait to dose again, or will I just know?
I can definitely agree on the different kinds of stoners idea. Some people just use marijuana to get stoned but some do actually use it as a tool which can drastically change your perception of the world. You notice much more when your high. Sometimes it takes alot of pot smoking for someone to realize these effects and the people who dont are the people who usually stray away from weed because they dont understand it and it makes them uncomfortable.. I can think ten times as fast when im high. Id say people underestimate weed
Whenever you feel comfortable doing it again. You will know when. Some people say don't take acid more than 3 times a year, but i consider that to be extremely conservative.
I find that the enjoyment I receive from drug use is inversely proportional to the frequency of use. The more weed I smoke, the less I enjoy it. I tripped pretty regularly for a brief period, and by the end, it had become basically meaningless - an exercise in consumption and psychological strength. Everyone is different, of course. I doubt Ram Dass would regret taking massive amounts of L back in the day, and if that worked for him, then great. I have usually advocated very limited use of drugs, especially psychedelics, for many very obvious reasons (addiction, money). I think the reason that most inspires real lovers of psychedelics not to overindulge is that the longer you wait between trips, the more meaningful and eventful your trip will be. As the guy in the thumbprint thread so aptly described, tripping is kind of like hitting the reset button on your mind... seeing the world from a clean slate for a few hours. It doesn't mean much when you hit the reset button every day or every week. In my opinion, the highest purpose of psychedelic experimentation is to grow as a person, and if you don't give yourself a nice chunk of life in between trips, this purpose is much harder to achieve.
to a point i agree with you but for me there are two types of trips. the psychological/spiritual trip - i generally take a larger dose and do it on my own to explore myself and the world. and the fun trip - i usually take a couple of tabs at a club and just have a great time. i find it easy enough to get lost in the music and dancing to really think too much. these days i may do this every month however i take the higher doses a lot less frequently and they are still as special as ever
I agree that weed can be relaxing or psychedelic, but even in its most psychedelic moments, it is nothing like acid. The best way I can compare it is that on acid, you sway along with your trip, whereas on weed it just happens in your sensory fields. This engagement between your feeling of placement in the universe, adn your psychedelic experience, is what often freaks people out, so weed is not going to prepare you for that. The only thing weed can prepare you for is the general fact that things are very different from usual! and the feeling of misinterpreting things except on weed if you misinterpret something it can often just fizzle away or remain uninterpreted, but on ACID your brain will try to find a very significant interpretation. Sure, on weed you can end up thinking elabourate strange thoughts but its sortof like you are just floating along through a strange brainstorm, but on acid your interpretations might start taking over your whole reality
Yes that's how it is for many people Bill, but not for everyone. I dont smoke herb anymore because I absolutley cant stand it. Besides the phsycial symptoms it brings me (the worst of which is that it makes my skin feel like its burning and sometimes like its being stretched, maybe Im mildly allergic?), the mental effects of even 3-4 tokes of potent headies are just as bad as a down moment getting dizzy from magic mushrooms. The last time I smoked I think I had about half a joint of mid grade herb with Aura, my girlfriend, and for 20-30 minutes I was fine, just becoming more aware and absorbed within my surroundings. The next thing I know I feel like Im going to pass out and get extremely dizzy, and I had to lay down in bed. As I was lying there, it felt like every part of my body was aching and throbbing, my head started ringing wildly and became like the whirring/synth noises from mushrooms, and with my eyes closed just trying to shake it off I was taking a journey through introspective Hell into observations and probings of things which are of the highest order of nonsense and disturbing imagery. I've smoked since I was 13 years old, first tried it at 12 years old, so it's been 11 years for me. Probably have smoked ungodly amounts of pounds of it in my time, and this sort of experience, though rare (happening around 10 times), is extremely grating on my nerves and well beyond the point of over stimulation. Complete sensory overload, a total lose of balance, feeling like fainting/dizzy for an hour or less, the skin burning sensation I mentioned above, and several other very uncomfortable sensations accompany the innocent high that THC is supposed to bring us. And please, most of you know me hear, let's not insult my knowledge of what weed is and assume Im getting sprayed shit or that Im suffering from the infamous flashbacks, because this has happened to me well before I've tried any psychedelic, in fact it happened for the first time before I even tried grain alcohol. Everyone reacts different, and I believe that Allen was leaning more towards what people like myself experience, possibly to a lesser degree of course, rather than someone who has a panic attack or is uncomfortable with the mind being exposed to a more open perception of the Self, which often is bothersome for people who are insecure or suffer from a guilty feeling due to a negative lifestyle. I agree, however, that THC is not proper preperation for LSD, but that's because nothing is. Psychedelic trips are so much more intense than any other recreational or consciousness expanding practice that the majority of us would ever persue, and it will always suprise a first time user.
Thats really strange, especially the burning sensation lol I just watched a McCain speech then read your post n all i could picture was his voice saying it.. Are you his writer by any chance?
1) Where should we go? (were thinking about going into the woods but I dont know if that will be good/bad). You would probably have lots of fun. I tripped with a few friends and we just walked around and eventually ended up at the woods, where we also had lots of fun. 2) What are some things to avoid? Tense, stressful people. You want to have a good time with fresh vibes. 3) Should I stay out of my house? Depends on how you handle yourself on drugs, but my first few times on LSD I wouldn't be chillin around the house where I may be needed to do something or talked to. Sometimes you may just find yourself speechless on the drug 4) Is a trip anything like being drunk? (can you forget parts or blackout) Depends on the person. I personally never forget what I experience, and so do some of my friends. Some people also claim it makes them do things they wouldn't ordinarily do, though I've never ran into that problem either. As I said, depends on the person, but I'd get to know the drug first for youself and perhaps play it safe to see how you react to it.
