I have an oppurtunity to see this incredible band and cant decide whether or not I should go. I saw their live DVD and I'm thinking who would want to go to their shows. aside from being a very poor venue the place is completely lit up and filled with down to earth family people with a few trust fund hippies scattered here and there. It doesnt look like a fun show at all. But they sure can Jam! so theres my dilemna. should I see these guys live for the first time? Will I be disappointed? Are all of their shows set up like their lame ass DVD? If youve seen them what was the show and its atmosphere like? good lot? good people? please let me know.
I say go. Ive never been to a bela fleck show but I hear that the shows are awesome. Plus they've got VICTOR WOOTEN, which is good enough for me no matter how crappy the venue. And where jam bands go hippies follow, so if your worried about there not being enough hippies there id say that won't likely be the case - plus who cares.
it's not usually a dance scene but it is a good show (despite the guranteed Amazing Grace..which we got twice in ONE SHOW. ick.) Great band who at least looks like they are having a great time. I find Victor to be amazing but I don't like his solos with Flecktones at all. very cookie cutter. if there's any chance of special guests GO. That's how I was introduced to Sam Bush solo.
Cool, I got tickets for this Saturday's show. I love Victor and I hope it is as cool as you say it is.
thinking more about it, they don't really jam in the jamband sense: it is definitely a take turns on a solo situation. I say see them once or twice, then catch 'em at the festies. If the venue has redeeming features, such as a nice vibe (Palo Solari in Santa Fe, Red Rocks, your local historic theatre) def spring for the money. But, if the $$ is tight and it's a make a choice night, I'd skip them, knowing what I know now.
