So a friend of mine has recently gotten himself into a bit of a scrape with the law. He has just gotten his second felony charge for felony marijuana distribution, including distributing to minors. And his first felony hasn't even gone to court yet. His lawyer said that he was looking at a sentence of at least ten years, but probably more.

Now I think it would be a wise idea to just say fuck off to the US of A, and run like a bitch. But here are the questions:

-Which country should he go to? It's just pot, but I don't know if other countries will extradite or what. I mean it would be cool if he could just drive to Canada and start over, but it can't be that simple.

-Could he fly? It seems like there would be countermeasures to keep felons out of the sky. I know people in England he might be able to stay with. How could he make it over?

He isn't a close friend, but I knew him growing up and blaze with him occasionally. I just don't think he would do much good for himself to go to jail when he could leave. So any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't bother coming up here...We will just send him back, if/when he's caught up here (as long as the US is looking for him).

Plus we have enough stoner-refugees here as it is now.

You can still parole out of a 2nd felony after a couple years, he'll never do the 10 if he behaves while locked up.

I'm sure you and he both know how stupid it is to sell to kids... now.

As far as leaving the country, i know that when you fly, when you present ID to the airline employees, that information is merely verified via computer, and checked against a do not fly list. However, if you do not have a pending warrant out for your arrest, you should be able to fly. The DNF list is for terrorists, and the few unlucky people who share similar names.

As for car, i believe the same applies however US Customs does have a more extensive database, but again as long as they aren't looking for you (i assume your friend is out on bond) you should be able to cross the border.

Is it worth the hassle and risk of being wrong? Not imo.

do the time, it won't be all 10 years, stay clean on parole and just man up.

Damn, 10 years... I'd try and run. I'd try and drive to Canada or Mexico, which ever is closer, then book a flight to Belgium, then a train to a remote location in the NL. It sounds better then bedtime with big bubba

hmm, well he got bailed out of jail today. So if he leaves now he won't be getting that money back. I'll still suggest running, though I'm not thinking he's going to be very receptive.

And Canada will really ship him back? That's shitty, we need some more tension with our neighbors, damn it!

If he causes problems up here, then yes, we'll send him back.
But marijuana is not considered a real crime...unless he's selling it. So if all he is doing up here is smoking, then he'd be ok

why would he start selling again (to minors nonetheless) when he is in the middle of settling a previous felony for doing the same thing? if i got busted doing something like that (i don't sell though), you can be damn sure i would keep an ultra low profile for a long time.

i think he should just face the penalty and clear his name (which will take awhile but people can come back from shit like that). if he runs to another country, he'll have bigger problems. not to mention the constant stress of being a fleeing felon on the run for the rest of his life.
