I highly suggest this documentary on the food industry... some of it is already known.. some of it may be shocking to you... but i found it to be rather interesting... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1286537/
Wow, wow, wow, wow. Just the fact that no one has responded to this thread, or has mentioned they have seen this just proves what we are up against. Ignorance. I just watched this in my Organic and Sustainability class. I'm busy at the moment, learning more about this crisis, but I will formulate a response about this film.
How do you watch this? I just got a review from the link. I think I might have seen this it sounds really familiar.
I think my parents have seen it. I've been reading Michael Pollan books obsessively since last year (as well as one of Joel Salatin's books on sustainable farming practices), so I don't think I need it, but I'll get around to it someday.
Good topic... no, GREAT topic... surprised I haven't stumbled upon it before now. Haven't seen the documentary so I can't intelligently comment on that but I look at the food industry as just another strictly for profit business where labeling and advertising are rife with deception- and safety regulation sets out how close the business can come to poisoning the customer... and many will toe that line. Do some research on genetically modified foods... how it won quick passage- who was shuffled in and out of the FDA and Monsanto to effect the change. If people start looking at the government for the corporate criminal entity it is instead of protector and leader then we can collectively comprehend what we're up against and what tactics would be best to deal with it.... including the importance of regular folks uniting and speaking with a unified voice as the political force that we're supposed to be.
We can beat these profit oriented, fascist, agriculture businesses and begin to produce healthier food at a cheaper prices that will help us feed more of the world. I think sustainability and organics are important but we need to also make strides to solve parts of the food crisis. We need a balance between the two movements. It is one of the hardest problems to solve.
Well- yeah -- "beating" them is a very open ended, broad term... one must be very careful about how one goes about grappling with an element of society that is responsible for keeping so many people fed. Combative tactics can be responded to with propaganda- "exposing" the "troublemaker" as a "terrorist" bent on endangering the food supply. The battle is at very best a long haul as we can only make meaningful change if we are a large enough number to endanger their profits. More people need to be thinking like us... and the way of getting them to do so is NOT by preaching at them as though we were evangelists. A very useful tool in this I think is the ability and willingness to grow a substantial garden... which is hard work VERY time consuming with the results susceptible to any number of calamities. This is not something I can do in my situation but I am casually talking about how some people could go in on a plot of land and divide the labor up--- not a drum I beat tiresomely- of course this is contingent on the government not having passed a food safety law making it illegal to have a backyard garden.... because exacerbating this issue is that the federal government is in fact on the side of the corporations Food co-ops are another strategy- check your area and contact them.... cutting into corporate profits is an effective way to get their attention. Doing it legally and peacefully limits their ways of responding uncooperatively.
I beg to differ on watching it because i know its going to show some gross stuff but so what? what are we all gonna do? stop eating? please. americans are not getting sick from this or from the fruits so why bother? yes its disgusting but really are 5 people going to change an industry? no. and it'll actually be helpful if everyone could afford organic food.
mcds is open 24 hrs.. not like anyone really cares about healthy food.. Only a handful of people around here, do care what they eat..
i could understand them making a video about mcdonalds because that shit's nasty to begin with but seriously. no one cares. the minute people start getting deathly sick or have major health problems, im sure someone will step in
Unfortunately you are correct that it takes something tragic for anything to happen but that's life.... just about every warning label you see is there because someone got hurt, sick, or suffered a mild to moderate death. What is in the food supply in chemical form won't induce sudden acute illnesses but I'm beyond convinced that it's a large part of why there are so many people becoming dependent on pharmaceuticals to survive or have some semblance of quality to life.... things like diabetes, early onset of arthritis, cholesterol and coronary artery disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, and any number of other once rare illnesses that we seem to see much more, and in younger and younger people. then there's all manner of mental illnesses, but I have other theories about that which are less germane to this discussion.
I just wanna know where the hell do they hide the new vitamins in the Rice Krispies Immunity? GTFO!!!.. I ate a whole fricking box in one evening and Tbh I was feeling more weakened than usual with rice food.. Im lucky to have a high metabolize and I can put away rice, but adding vitamins to something I(anyone) can break down quickly seems to me it could over load you on something, in fact it felt alot like a niacin od..
It's really not necessary to attack Stacy in order to further your point. If you disagree then fine but`this is not the way to go about stating your differences. Not only is it uncalled for but inappropriate to make your personal differences with another individual part of a debate and it robs your stance of any credibility it might have.
No, I'm more just focusing how I think some people are disgusting. Don't care. Edited to add. Maybe she'll learn from my bitching. Probably not. And probably not, will she learn from wise proverb. As Yoda might say. She doesn't care, I'm playing her game. There are tons of games played, with words especially. Dualistic-ally, as is THE reality of it, language is on a level that does not concern an unspeakable truth, as at the same time it helps our minds identify what deeply matters to the self as it may relate to the whole world picture. I word my despise even as it has no connection to the deepest level. Some people prove ignorance through and through, over and over again, and I reserve any right to shit where I please. It's just turd anyways. People so attached to what negative a turd might imply, even though it cycles around to carbon. What is letting people down, when there is actual life crisis.
i watched maybe the first 10 minutes of it. i got hungry, so i went and tipped a cow and hooked it up to my truck, got it back, cut it up and ate some dead cow. delicious
Wow. Im sure if this was your kind of village ill be like the hunchback and you'll let people throw tomatoes on me right? Just because I Dont agree with someone or something, doesnt mean you gotta neg rep me and make YOURSELF look like an idiot. I just had people agree with me, so why take it out on just me? Now thats ignorance. Again...People do not care...only a handful do. And yay for them, but honestly, it isnt a death defining toll on us... This is how the world works hunny buns. Its sad but true. I feel for the dying kids but we all cant save everyone. I might be supportive of it when they start really slacking on it, but that'll never happen. we ARE doing to have bacteria on our foods no MATTER what. Get over it. and I love how I see friz "joking" about the cows but I dont see you bitching at him too? Keep it up, champ
I'm not talking about saving everyone from some silly damn idea of one big sweep of love. Like no shit I can't save everyone in a given moment. But we can ALL make healthy choices that can sometimes in turn save a life somewhere. Again, not by direct effect. There are people out there that are part of movements to turn this all around, and they need support from everyone. Especially you by eating healthy as much as possible. The other problem is, you're wrong, people have major health problems, are starving, and die because of the way we produce and consume. See I don't think me taking it out on you is true ignorance. Maybe in some sense (even though no one in this thread does agree with you). But true ignorance would you be speaking up your ridiculous "I'm not gonna give a fuck", because you have not only no awareness of your decisions, but also no awareness of world crisis the ins and outs, that make your silly careless attitude extremely dumb. You do make a difference to the world, you are part of a natural system. Good things your words don't. That would really really suck. I have faith though that you aren't making terribly disgusting health decisions. God knows there are people with far worse natural karma.
I dont know why you're still explaining yourself to me. What are you trying to do? Oh hell if you're sooo up for this, SAVE everyone, be a hero. What? you're just gonna save a few? Now what kind of person is THAT? And Show this to the fat slobs who consume meats and shit every day, of course theyre gonna have health problems. i eat meat, iM not sick, so who cares? If I do get sick, its caused by me not cooking it good enough. Gimme a break dude. Your little hippie "lets eat organic!" shit isnt going to change a shit load of people's minds Im a very healthy person--I like meats every once in awhile--so does everyone else. You shouldnt be directing this at me. AND people DID agree with me in this very thread. Re-read it. And If they didnt im sure they'll be arguing with me too. But it seems like you're the only one putting effort in a pointless argument. Ta-ta. lulu
