I've heard some rumors about french fries being fried in animal fat at restaurants. Is this true? Wouldn't they get all slimey and start brewaking extremely easily?

Some restraunts used to put animal based oil in their deep friers. All of the places that I've ever worked in use vegetable oil. Just ask your server, they will be glad to answer.

in the UK itis still popular (I cannot donate blood because of it...travelin' veggies beware) and some "natural flavours" are in fact from critters and bugs.
animal fat actually cooks food quite crisp.

a lot of fast food chains sprinkle "beef powder" on their fries as part of their seasoning process. as far as being fried in animal fat, i don't think they are. animal fat goes bad quick.

on my way home from a quebec trip (fuckin awesome btw) we stopped at a harveys and i ordered a veggieburger from there. i have been a veggie for over a year and a half and this burger tasted exactly like what i would remember meat tasted like. has anyone else tried them or had an experience like this? i didnt really trust what i was eating but since i had to wait an extra 20 minutes then everyone else to get it i figure it was prolly veggie

i also got some mc fries on the way to quebec after i swore i would never eat fast food again after watching supersize me and i regret it

The same thing hapened to me at Burger King. I spit the thing out and nearly threw up. All I could taste was dead, rotting flesh... I don't trust fast food places anymore... luckily there was a gas station right nextdoor so I grabbed an odwalla bar and smoothie.

    People have issues.

I mean, c'mon beef powder? Whee!! let's poison the vegetarians and vegans with our hormone-pumped animals!

    Sheesh...

does Wendy's do this? (that's about the only place I eat at)

You'd be surprised at the great veggie food the companies put out. Some of that stuff really tastes like the real thing. I was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church so I was raised vegetarian by default. Most of the soy based meat substitutes out there were developed and are produced by Seventh-day Adventists. ie Sovex,McKays Chicken Seasoning,Wham, Vegi-Links,Choplets Fri-Chik and other various product lines like Morning Star Farms,Worthington and Loma-Linda. Worthington makes this Tuna substitute called Tuno that many carnivores swear is the real thing. I've served the veggie chicken nuggets to my niece and nephews and they couldn't tell the difference! BTW: While at Wakarusa I saw a number of vendors hawking Loma Linda veggie dogs.

BTW: Few restaraunts if any fry with animal fat. If never heard of any one putting beef powder on fries. They do dump a ton of salt on fries so that right there makes 'em unhealthy.

I'll do a bit of reasearch and see if I can find some online resources for ordering veggie "meat" from these various companies. I reccomend the following.... Fri-Chik, Tuno,Vegi-Links. They also have "beef" and "turkey" that can be sliced deli style.

You can also make gluten "steaks" from bread dough. You just make bread dough and rinse the starch out and you are left with the protein. I'll post the recipe when I get a chance.

wow you guys are crazy... listen to AT98. i've worked in a few fast food places and the only thing i warn about french fries is that they usually fry chicken in the same fryers as the french fries, but if you read Fast Food Nation, fast food places, like mcdonald's, don't use animal fat anymore because of the immense health issues in it. can you imagine how many calories?? anyway, it's not very common anymore at all, at least not in the US. oh yes, and when you're eating fake meat, unless you notice bits of ligament or cartilage i wouldn't freak out about it. if you're that weird about things tasting like meat, then don't eat the fake stuff that is SUpposed to taste like meat.... eat veggies instead.

Before I went veg, my bro was veg, thus I got to try a lot of the fake meats, and acquired quite a liking for them. They don't taste fleshy and bloody... they just taste nummy! ^^
I love Morningstar Farms mini corn dogs and chicken nuggets! ^^

    But I couldn't find a fish on it. :(

I'll be interested to hear about the bread-dough recipe. ;)

ru, search for seitan (pronounced satan, sort of) or look for wheat meat prepared foods. I remember a really good bbq out of Texas.
Morning Star can just as easily be pagan or derived from NAtive American mythos as Xtian. And wouldn't it be a tad confusing to use the ichtus on a veggie food? some might think it meant the food was a fish product.
