My friend has quite fine hair. We put in a few dreads in his hair, and they just turn straight into normal hair. He doesn't want to go neglect.

    Help?

Telling us *how* you put a few dreads in his hair might help us out.

Keep going and refine your backcombing technique, if you're thorough they'll stay long enough to get things started. I'd suggest rubber bands but that would make me a pariah

I did using backcomb, and I did it the same one I did with a few of mine, and they're fine and are doing great. So I don't know why his hair isn't knotting up. I keep suggesting going natural but he wants it done by using the backcomb method

Well, I expect neglect would work fine, never seems much slower on thin hair, especially if you wash it in whatever way increases the friction of your hair the most, and use a wool pillowcase....

He should consider it a blessing: Most people backcombs take months to fall out before the dreading process can even start, his did it fast.... he's that much ahead of anyone else who backcombed.

Well his were in for just over a month.

He just doesn't want to do neglect, says he's not patient enough for it.

    Lol...

He doesn't want to wait so long for neglect dreads to start forming, and prefers backcombed dreads over any other method, He has patience for backcombed ones, but not to do the neglect method.

I seriously don't know what to do, because I never had this problem when I put three, of my five dreads in doing backcomb.

Were they using residue free shampoo?
They could use that for a week then try and backcomb.. make sure to not condition, that could cause fall out.
I've read that Dr. B's help the hair dread but i cant say from experience.

He wasn't conditioning, and was washing them with SIMPLE shampoo, which is perfume and residue free etc
