There is a shop here that do a permanent offer of a three course meal and a bottle of wine for £10. Now they have a valentines offer - the same thing but with a box of 6 chocolates for £20. I am not going to pay £10 for 6 small chocolates?! Bloody valentines day and it's crazy price increases.

greed? valentines day is about heart. if you spend money on things its just the cheap way around things. things never really have that much value if money revolves around it, how much something cost or where u got it or what it was how much u could afforid how it effects you ect. ect. that type of stuff is meaningless on valentines day.

valentines day is about the heart, as something as a folded pieces paper with a note to a loved one reminding them how you care for them. not about what you can get them, its about how they make you feel. making a card for someone with sincere value to it has alot more sentimental value then these flowers that you went and bought.

anyone can buy anything but only you can make what comes from your heart. thats what valentines day is about.

every year

 

usually my honey buys me tickets to something, last year it was Flight of the Conchords, the two years before that it was George Carlin. he buys me tickets for Valentines Day, and then the show is usually around his birthday. so its like 2 for the price of one! plus it is a date night, and we dont usually get to run off without the kiddo.
this year we are forgoing gifts because we have hockey tickets, and because we are trying to save some money to get out of this god awful apartment complex. and he has to get $2k worth of body damage fixed on the car, so we are gonna pinch pennies till it hurts, so we can get a house and some land. or just some land, fuck it i'll pitch a tent and build a house myself.

we dont stand on ceremony with any holidays though, we open xmas gifts when they arrive in the mail, i tell people what im giving them (im getting a cart/ seat thing for my mom for her garden, her back still bothers her since her surgery, so instead of kneeling r squatting to weed the garden she can sit and roll up the rows)
i 'save up' gift prices, and then say "i know i want that still, ive wanted it for awhile, buy it for me now and we'll call it a birthday present." i got my vacuum that way, and my pressure canner, and my dutch oven. i like practical stuff, and shiny stuff, but i dont wear a lot of jewelery, i think i just like the pirate treasure aspect of opening my shiny stuff boxes.
