I've been taking Gabapentin (Neurontin) for over a year for diabetic neuropathy. I haven't missed any doses, so I haven't been in a position to experience any withdrawal symptoms from it. I'm thankful that I have it, because it has really helped with the shooting pains that I used to have in my legs and feet. I have heard that it is addictive, however, and that you may experience some withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it abruptly. I did a quick search and found this on Wiki:

    Withdrawal

"Gabapentin should not be discontinued abruptly after long term use. Abrupt or over rapid withdrawal may provoke a withdrawal syndrome reminiscent to alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal.[34][35] Gradual reduction over a period of weeks or months helps minimize or prevents the withdrawal syndrome.[34]

Side effects upon discontinuation of gabapentin that have been reported in medical literature include insomnia, restlessness, agitation, anxiety, disorientation, confusion, light sensitivity, diaphoresis, headaches, palpitations, hypertension, chest pain, and flu-like symptoms.[34][36][37][38] In at least one case, abrupt cessation of a high dose of gabapentin triggered a seizure in an individual with no history of epilepsy.[37]"

On a side note, I've also read that Gabapentin can itself be used to ease the symptoms of opiate withdrawal. If you Google it you'll find quite a bit of anecdotal evidence on that. I've never tried it for that purpose, so I don't know if it really works or not.

Smoking spice? At the risk of sounding naive, I don't even know what that refers to. On a side note, I heard that the person who made the 911 call for Demi Moore said she was doing whip-its, but also "smoking something similar to incense." Huh?

Spice is a synthetic chemical to imitate the effects of marijuana. It is sold in smoke shops at a cheap price and doesn't show up on drug tests, but it is terrible for you and can cause very obscure and serious side effects.

Maybe that's the shit that Demi Moore was smoking when she went into convulsions. Or it could have been too much nitrous.

The stories I have heard about the 911 call and her effects seem to be that she smoked Salvia. She was convulsing and couldn't talk at the beginning of the 911 call, and before the call even ended she was sitting back up and talking coherently.

It coincides with the weird effects that the body experiences while completely gone in Salvia-land, and also coincides with the duration that she experienced those effects of her body.

OT: I have been taking Neurontin for the past two days to help with WD as I heard it helps, but I have not noticed any significant help from it, nor any sort of buzz. I wasn't expecting a buzz, but I was just telling everyone out there that this isn't the best drug to try and use for fun.

My dose of Gabapentin is 400mg 3 times per day. It's helped with the nerve pain, but I've never felt anything like a buzz from it. As far as helping ease opiate withdrawal, I've seen a little on the web about it, but I believe it requires dosages higher than normally prescribed. How much higher, I don't know. I believe it's used for alcohol withdrawal as well. As for recreational use, I've seen a little anecdotal evidence on the web, but nothing solid. From what I've read, you can catch a little buzz on it at first, but tolerance builds rapidly. And apparently it's been banned from certain prisons because of inmate abuse.

I'm now using Gabapentin for opiate withdrawal myself. And I have to say it works. I ran out of my Vicoden 2 days ago, and began with the Gabapentin after doing some research online. I have a script for Gabapentin and I have about a 4 month supply. I took an initial dose of 1.8 grams, which is quite a bit more than the prescription calls for, and since then about 2.4 grams per day. The results are pretty amazing. 2 days and no wd symptoms at all, save for maybe a little craving, but it really doesn't bother me. Can you catch a buzz from Gabapentin? Yes, you can. It's kind of a weird, far-out buzz that's hard to describe. You can sleep and eat, and hold conversations with people, but everything's kind of weird. But yes, it does pretty much eliminate opiate withdrawal symptoms. If you take enough of it.

Well, it works. I have to give Gabapentin my official seal of approval. It's been 8 days, and the wd's have been very mild. There was no "heavy" feeling, I had enough energy to get around and do things, there was no insomnia, RLS, anxiety, diarrhea, etc. Just a subdued craving that didn't bother me much. Now I'm tapering down my Gabapentin dose to my normal prescription of 400mg 3x per day. I was taking 2-3g of Gabapentin per day, and no, it wasn't completely pleasant, because there are some side effects, such as a feeling of disorientation, but it beats the hell out of going through wd. I'm not done with vikes, I just ran out of my script early and didn't have the cash to pay $5 for a single 10mg pill. But at least now with the Gabapentin I won't stress out so much about running out each month.
