I copied a game disk for windows. It is supposed to run on XP. But I keep getting an error message that says that autorun and other files are not valid win32 files. Anyway to fix that. It is a nice game. I copied my daughters Harry Potter game disks for her brother and a boy here who is retarded. And they won't play. I copied them under Linux. Should I have waited and copied them with Nero under Windows. Can't recopy them as they are in the mail to my daughter. Can have her recopy them. Or maybe it is just the disks. And they got a copy protect where it don't run unless you got an official disk. I if anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am not very good with Windows. I learned on Linux. The newest Harry Potter game is a DVD and it loads just fine but I forgot to get the code off the back which I can get when I talk to Trisha after it gets there. Thanx Peace, Cricketlind
I don't know much about Linux, but I have one of the Potter games and it copied well under Nero in Windows. I use the backup disk exclusively, saving the original. There are programs out there that let you mount a virtual disk and play everything off the hard drive. http://www.tucows.com/preview/214422
In Linux, download K3B for burning anything. It is just like Nero except it is free. Ubuntu is probably the command (as root): I think you said in a post that you use a lightwieght GUI. I dont know if this is still the case but K3B does run with KDE libraries. You dont need KDE to use it but it will take up a little disk space for the libraries. Just something to keep in mind. As for the problem, the game disc is probably an ISO which would need to be dd to the hard disk and then dd to the CD-R. Optionaly, you could copy the game to your hard disk and then create the right ISO image and burn that image to the CD-R. It might sound complicated but that is the underlying way it works. K3B will handle all that for you, just like Nero. BTW, Nero is available for Linux too.
OK will try. I copied the disk as an iso file and then burned the image to CD-R and it has the files on it but won't run. Don't have the original CD's as I already mailed them to Utah. So, you are saying to copy the copy back to hardisk and reburn them with K3B. I used the Ubuntu default iso image copier when I right clicked the CD on my desktop. And then did the same to burn the image. Or should I have my daughter re-copy the disks and send them to me? The files look like they are all there when I opened them in my file browser. They just won't run. Thanks for the input. Peace, Cricketlind
if the disks were in any way damaged or if you touched the surfaces before they were written to you will have damaged data now no suggestions really except get the originals back and get a copy of the full version of Nero
Yah! I hear. Just ordered a set of the originals for myself and will be burning them again. At least with my laptop I can check them under Windows. Tried to put one back on my harddrive and reburn it but it still did not work. Still comes up as a data file. I know about touching the disks, etc. Thanks for the replies though. Peace, Cricketlind
