I don't know what it is but I really like this movie, it's not great cinema...your average indie flick basically. Still for some reason I enjoy watching it and it's kind of sad that it never got the attention it deserves.

It's a very quite and bittersweet, yet not uneventful movie about two sisters and their mother, struggling with everyday life in the shithole they live in which is set in the scorching void/dreariness of the desert of New Mexico, the ideal scenery.

A young Fairuza Balk plays the lead role and I thought she really did a great job. I recall that I had a huge crush on her and the character she is playing after watching it for the first time. It's one of those movies that make me curious about the book which it's based on. To this date I still haven't read it...I'm not sure why, it's possible that I thought it looks more like a teenage-girl diary.

Anyway, I recently came across it again, it's "Don't Look and It Won't Hurt" by Richard Peck. Has anybody read it? Is it worth a try even when you're not excactly 16 anymore?

This is in my top five all-time favorite movies. I don't know why GFL never got much attention, but I suppose it's a good thing--most successful movies have suck-ass sequels.

Oh yeah, the movie's tag line is ludicrous. I doubt the moron that came up with it actually watched the movie.
