Most people have never heard of the name Darfur. Or Sudan. But everyday, 2,000 people die- simply because their skin is the wrong color. The women are raped, the men are castrated, the children and elders of the villages have their faces smashed in with clubs- just because they're not "purebred." I am devoting my life to stopping this atrocity. You might be thinking, "Genocide. Just a name in a history textbook. Sure it might have happened 65 years ago, but that's ancient history...right?" That's where we're deadly wrong. In Darfur to date, 500,000 people have been killed by their own goverment. And the international community is doing nothing. Sure, countries promise to send aid, or send troops to stop this abomination (i.e. USA) but their promises are weak, and empty. Less than 20% of money promised to be sent to Africa has been actually sent. It happened during Katrina, and it's happening now- WE DON'T DELIVER. That's the problem with America! We have this facade of moral integrity, and compassion for the less fortunate, but when it comes to people who truely cannot stand for themselves we turn away. Chalking it up to "National Soverignty." (You non-political system people, N.S. is the right for a country to do whatever it pleases, because, well, it's their country.) I am not standing for this fucking abomination anymore. I am devotion my life to these people the whole world has forgotten. I will make a difference when no one else will bother. Arthur Schupenhauer once said, "Compassion is the basis of all morality." Remember that. Remember Darfur. Take a stand for the helpless. It won't be in vain.
Most people here only care if you can blame the US Government for it. Yea, it is a disgusting situation that the world should be acting on.
I think most of us here are very well aware of the situation. You are just now becoming familiar with it. I am sure you are just as wound up about global warming aren't you. Marketing finally reached you. Now they can manipulate your emotions. I would suppose you also refuse to buy diamonds since Leonardo made his film.
question Gardener... can you ever just allow someone their opinions? Or must you really assume they they come from someplace other then their own searching?
As a matter of fact, I've known about Darfur since it first began in 1998, and I hate Leonardo. Do not make assumptions about me, as you have absolutley no idea. :]
Are you always so...disagreeable? Do you argue, just to argue? Do you fight just for the sake of fighting? If so, dear friend, you are wasting your life.
I argue because its fun lol. I enjoy debates more, and the best ones are face to face. Thats when my skills kick in and I can defeat any arguement thrown at me... I'm a pro...
110 people die ever minute, that's almost 2 every second. Starvation and Cardiovasculair desease are two major killers, both can be prevented. So no, I can't say I care all that much, would I like to? Of course, but like most humans I am a selfish greedy pig.
I admire your concern. In 1998 you would have been ten years old. I understand that at ten you couldn't really do much. I am glad you are taking an active interest right now.
Gardener, I was raised to know what was going on in the world, as my mother is an activist. I have known about genocide, rape, civil rights, etc, etc, basically since I've been able to logically comprehend them. And just because theis is the first time you've spoken with me, doesn't mean this is the first time I've been knowing about this... Again, don't make assumptions about me. Peace.Alixi.
So...basically you're saying you only care about what goes on is your "sphere of the world?" that's sad, mate...
