Depends on the Spirit. Some people do not want to die and are leaching off others for their energy (vamps). Most don't realise they are dead. Often it is just your etheric imprint on your surroundings. Blessings Sebbi

Man, when I die I hope I have the choice to be a ghost for a little while... hang around earth for a while... spook all the ppl that have done me wrong in my life... leave mysterious stinks around their house... have a few sleepless nights... that would be so funny.
a ghost is different than a spirit.a ghost will stay around the enviorment that it lived whilst on the earth plain (as as been said ) . so its like a recording in time .spirits can travel and communicate with people on the earth plain. / peace/
Most ghosts that i have seen do not know they're dead. However I have seen ghosts that are just content being ghosts. For example I saw monks in a church doing their religious rituals. Sudden death, tramatic death, anger, hate can also make a soul earthbound. When i see a ghost i usually encourage them ( or try to) to cross over. Spirits are souls who have crossed over. They do come to visit every so often. Unlike ghosts, it's much more difficult for a spirit to manifest on this dense plane. They manifest more easily when the earth is moist ( dew, rain and so on). I've seen fewer spirits than ghosts. I had a dog who died last year from a seziure. She comes to visit often! I hear her bark and walking on the hardwood floor. Blessings jesu
wow, sorta unrelated.. this just happened like 15 minutes ago (parents & sister asleep) and i was unplugging my stereo, just getting ready for bed.. and i was just lying in bed, when i heard my stereo crackling and muffled noises, like a song.. but i unplugged it!!.. i dont wanna go back in there.. and i havent smoked anything today..
I know of two reasons. #1. Like Sebbi said. They arent aware they've passed. #2. They have something they have yet to do. I feel that some of them have someone to protect from something.
How could something not know it was 'dead'?? I think if I died, I would know instantly I was dead... You would think it wouldn't be that hard to figure out...if you can walk through walls, and others can't... Any being with any kind of IQ, should be able to figure out it was 'dead' or of another realm... Unless of course it's putting on a deceptive act...
Maby they care waiting like a time lock on the golden gates, or running from saiten and the hell hounds, once out the bush when i was all alone i seen a gohst walk by me into the shadows. Turns out i found a new camp spot real quick,. Hellos and good bys are cool for gohst i guess they dont have much else to do, also haveing alot of spare time. Kind regurds jo,
This hanging on scenerio just seems creepy to me...almost deceptive... Hanging on to what?? Almost like a parolee who escapes from prison, and is hiding out in your basement... When your gone, there's really nothing to 'hang onto'...if indeed there's another realm, and is indeed better...seems most would be eager to move on... Unless they've been shown something horrible, and are hanging on out of fear.
