Give us some examples? IMO the strat isn't too badly over priced, it feels and sounds great, too. The Gibson is REALLY overpriced. Especially with the shitty quality control.
You aren't gonna find too many quality built american guitars around for under $1000. Carvin is one example with some of the custom shop models going for around $850.

I have not played many Carvins, but they appear to be pretty good, comparatively.

American made guitars will always cost more...American labor is expensive,
and the quality rarely equals price.

    Most
amateurs (and many professionals) don't have a clue and are only buying a name.
The pro's that do have a clue usually have their Strat's and 'Pauls highly customized , nowhere near stock guitars.

    Don't overlook Japanese manufacturers.
Ibanez is no.1 in my book...They have expensive guitars too, but their mid priced lines represent an awesome value.

(I'm a little biased cuz I like Ibanez neck profiles.)

    P.S. I voted for the Strat...:D

I picked Gibson Les Paul. I like metal and heavy music, strat's have never really done it for me in that department.

I like Ibanez, but I decided I am getting a 7 string Agile soon. LTD also has a lot of midprices guitars that sound almost as good as their more expensive ESP models.
